Lancaster City Museum is housed in the former Town Hall, built in 1781-3 to the design of Major Jarrett and Thomas Harrison. The Museum was founded in 1923 and its displays illustrate the history and archaeology of the county town of Lancaster and the most northerly and rural part of Lancashire.

Judges Lodgings Museum is Lancaster's oldest town house, dating from the 17th century. Originally home to witch hunter Thomas Covell, it displays a wealth of furniture, porcelain, silver and paintings.
