Extremely Poor Roof Repair
I have had the misfortune to deal with Suts Roofing and Building Contractors and the Managing Director, Chris Sutcliffe. I entered into a contract with the company to replace the old roof on my property, including removal of foam seal, and the insulation, which had been causing damp issues. Upon completion, I was sent strategic photos to show the job they had done, because I live remotely. I paid, rather naively, because Chris was an amenable man and seemed friendly enough. The reality was that the foam seal was never removed creating 2 further health hazards – unacceptable weight in the loft space and dust. Also, tiles on the gable end looked like pieces of a jigsaw, all different lengths protruding over the gable. Some were even flush with the gable, contravening building regulations. I tried to get the company back, but there were always excuses and stalling tactics. In the end, I had to call in a 2nd company to clear the loft space, but they found the new roof tiles were incorrectly fitted, none were nailed in place, the chimney flashing was coming away from the stack, they were not married up properly to the neighbour’s tiles, and minimal amounts of silicone had been used to hold down the tiles. Chris, on the one occasion he had attempted to clear the loft, had cut through batons at the rear of the property to access the loft space, but batons at the front of the roof were in a similar state; they had not been cut, but they simply were not long enough, so were placed end to end – without any joists. It has cost me nearly as much to put right what was wrong. Chris then agreed to refund money. Nothing! He avoids all contact. I would never recommend this company.
