Acorn Ecology Ltd is an ecological consultancy with a difference. Based in Devon, UK, Acorn Ecology Ltd are ecological consultants providing consultancy services, professional development courses for ecologists, wildlife interpretation and environmental education. Our staff take an active interest in all our projects, which means that every client receives a personal, professional and efficient service.
Acorn Ecology was established by Sue Searle in 2003. She is a licensed bat worker and bat trainer and has 8 year's experience of ecological consultancy. Sue is a lecturer in Ecology and Conservation with both Exeter and Bristol Universities and runs courses for The Mammal Society, FSC and IEEM. She also runs her own professional development courses through Acorn Ecology Ltd. In 2009 she won a National Training Award. She is a full member of IEEM and subject to a professional code of conduct. She takes personal responsibility for all projects that the team undertakes. The team are fully insured.
Since changing from a career in nursing, Sue has completed a degree in biological sciences at Exeter in 2001 and a post graduate diploma in ecology and conservation at Bristol in 2003 when she also set up Acorn Ecology Ltd. She has worked for the East Devon Heathland Heritage Project, Dartmoor National Park and the Barn Owl Trust. Sue is a licensed bat and dormouse worker, bat trainer, and full member of IEEM. In 2000 she won an Earthwatch Millennium Fellowship, in 2002 she won a David Bellamy Award and in 2009 she won a National Training Award. Sue is the managing director and principal ecologist at Acorn Ecology. During her (limited!) spare time, she enjoys photography, art, walking the south west coast path, dog walking and gardening.
At Acorn Ecology we are always looking for ways to help people launch and enhance their career in ecology. Whilst we do not have any vacancies at the current time, we hope the advice and information on this page will help you to take a step forward in your career. A good way to enhance your CV and impress potential employers is to attend field courses that improve your skills and knowledge. Whilst many degree courses are excellent at providing background knowledge about ecology and wildlife, few provide skills and knowledge that are directly applicable to Ecological Consultancy. Therefore, to boost your chances of finding an ecological job, we strongly recommend that you attend some of our field courses. In particular the Acorn Ecology Certificate in Ecological Consultancy is designed specifically for this purpose.
