Affordable Family Law Advice, Custody, divorce lawyer

About

Affordable Family Law Advice (‘AFLA') is your one stop family law services shop offering help with family law issues at the most competitive rates.

Whether you're looking for a ‘do-it-yourself', DIY divorce or other family law legal package, help from a qualified divorce solicitor to check court documents, or give you one-off advice, or a ‘fully-managed' divorce solicitor service we can help.

If you ask us to put you in touch with an expert divorce solicitor or family lawyer they will be a member of Resolution (formerly the Solicitors Family Law Association, further information at www.resolution.org.uk).

We understand that since the changes in eligibility rules for legal aid in April 2013, which mean that many people no longer qualify for public funding irrespective of their financial circumstances, the availability of legal advice for divorce and separation has been further reduced.

Our packages and services below are designed to provide you with unrivalled quality help at the best possible value.

DIY Divorce Package

In straightforward cases where there are no disagreements about the particulars of the divorce petition (that is the facts relied upon to justify the divorce) or the contents of the statement of arrangements for children, we offer all of the forms you will need to issue your own proceedings together with detailed guidance about how to complete the petition and statement of arrangements (where relevant).

If you are in any doubt about whether you can deal with your divorce yourself or whether you would benefit from some advice why not make use of our panel divorce solicitor one-off legal advice service (Please note that Affordable Family Law Advice Ltd is not authorised to offer legal advice, and our terms and conditions specifically state that we do not offer legal advice. A consultation of up to 45 minutes will be charged at a fixed fee of £75.00).

The guidance we provide in completing the court forms, which are also provided in this package, has been drafted by (and constantly reviewed by) a fully qualified expert divorce solicitor.

Fully Managed Divorce Solicitor Service

If you are concerned that your case may present complexities that you will not know how to deal with (for example of you do not know the whereabouts of your spouse or you fear that they will not acknowledge your divorce proceedings) or you are not confident about completing the forms and managing the process yourself you may wish to work with an expert divorce solicitor.

We can put you in touch with an expert panel divorce solicitor who will be able to deal with your uncontested divorce from beginning to end. If you are issuing the proceedings (the Applicant/Petitioner) a fixed fee of £180.00 will be charged (this does not include court fees or fees due to any third parties such as process servers or barristers if they are needed), and if your spouse is issuing the proceedings a fixed fee of £96.00 will be charged to advise you as Respondent. Our panel solicitors will be in touch with you within 1 business day.

One-off Legal Advice Service

If you are in any doubt about the course of action you should follow, what your options are or how to deal with a specific family law issue we can provide you with a telephone appointment (at a mutually convenient time between the hours of 8:00am and 6:15pm Monday to Friday and 10:00am and 3:15pm on Saturdays) with an expert panel family law solicitor so that you can get advice. Our panel solicitor will be in touch with you to make an appointment within 1 business day.

You must be realistic about how much can be achieved during one-off advice appointments and our panel family lawyer may advise you that further work with them should be undertaken to deal with your query fully.

You should be aware that a one-off advice appointment is very unlikely to enable our panel solicitors to obtain sufficient information from you to advise you about your options for a financial settlement or the likely outcome of any court proceedings.

A consultation of up to 45 minutes will be charged at a fixed fee of £75.00.

Financial Settlement Legal Advice Service

If you are divorcing you must consider obtaining an order from the court settling financial claims you and your spouse/civil partner have against each other by virtue of your marriage.

You must be aware that even when you don't own your own home – and may consider that you have no assets – matrimonial claims may still exist. Even if you do not believe that there needs to be any transfers of property, spousal maintenance payments or pension sharing orders (for example) you should still consider whether financial claims should be dismissed to avoid issues in the future. May know this stage of the process as obtaining a clean break order (although the term has more legal meaning than is often realised).

You should be aware that there are no fixed answers to the way that financial matters are resolved, and there is no strict rule of law which provides for a 50/50 financial settlement in all cases. The law is very flexible and applies on a case by case basis which makes it potentially very risky to deal with negotiations yourself unless you are legally qualified as a family solicitor or lawyer.

As the advice you receive will only be as good as the information it is based upon you should give careful consideration to using our ‘Financial information form (Form E) completion service'. If you discover after obtaining written advice from one of our panel divorce solicitors that your family's financial picture is different from that upon which the advice was based (for example if a pension fund had not been disclosed) you may find that the advice is not longer relevant to your case.

If you believe that you would benefit from a one-off advice about your particular family finances and the financial settlement appropriate to your case we can provide you with a panel family solicitor who give you written advice at a one-off fixed fee of £270.00. Our panel solicitor will make contact with you within 1 business day.
