I hired Alpha-Dec in March for a 10-14 day job decorating and renovating my late mum and dad's house. Today, 17th July, I have cancelled the job, which is currently 50% finished. I am appalled by the ridiculous length and poor quality of work, and would ask anybody to seriously consider whether they would want the stress and worry brought on by the abysmal experience I have had. As I write, I will be around £1500 pounds out of pocket by the time I get the job finished by another contractor. I have a house that has a lot of stuff started but nothing finished. The tiling is the worst, an eight year old could do better, and 50% of it is going to have to come off. I paid for stripping, papering and painting; 80% is undecorated to this day with bare walls or old paper still on the walls. The house had no water for a bath for a month, no cooker for 2 months now, and no electric in the kitchen for 6 weeks. I've got 12 new doors unpainted and with no handles, a 3 foot crack in the kitchen window, a shower hanging off a wall, kitchen units with no drawers, laminate that creaks and moves when you stand on it, a boarded wall in the hall that has the shape of a banana. Most of all, the upsetting thing is that I feel a complete mug. I have been stupidly understanding of the excuses, the broken promises, the revised dates and the disappearing acts. I have made around 100 unanswered calls, plenty of texts / e mails / contact via the Alpha-Dec website that were ignored. Avoid the stress.
