Well we like it at the Angel Inn, especially on a nice sunny day sitting outside. We haven't used the fire pits but they are a really good idea - must try them some time soon! Not had any problems with the food or drink so far. The puddings are a bit small but probably an average size for a pub these days. The chilean white wine is very tasty so that keeps me happy...

This will generate a heated response, or a storm of contradictions, as it has on other sites, but we had a bad experience there a couple of years ago. As a result of complaining about the greasy nature of the 'chips' we have been banned from the pub. We were perfectly willing to pay for the rest of the order, including the caesar salad that had been drowned in sauce, but the manager did not accept our complaint; told us he would write off our entire bill as long as we never used the pub again, and when we tried to settle for the other meal and the wine, we found he had written off the bill. We haven't been back, but with the Bear Cross and the Kings Arms both serving excellent food, there hasn't been much need. Don't get me wrong - we don't expect gourmet food in managed houses, but other pubs in the same chain don't have the same issues with food preparation. Neither do we condemn the staff - they need guidance from the manager and he wasn't able to give it.
