Welcome

I'm Ed and I thought I should write a bit of a blurb so that you know who we are, why we're here and where we're going, so here goes:

Cathy, my wife, has 20 years experience in retail as an accountant and I was in IT for 25 years and have experience in wholesale and retail (ex safeway). Having had enough of the rat race we decided to start Babe-equip, as we wanted to put our knowledge and experiences to new and exiting challenges and to work together at or near home.

We have a young daughter (now nearly 8) and therefore some experience (and frustration!) in buying and researching items for her. We decided, after a lot of discussion, that we could make life an awful lot easier for new parents. We then roped in Janet, a friend, who has a young family as well as midwife friends, so her experience and contacts have been an enormous help.

Our Aims

As new parents we were bemused by the choice available and ended up buying what sales people suggested rather than what really would have really suited us. We also felt guilty about using disposable nappies and wipes but had no idea where to start with cloth nappies. Having spent the last 9 months or so researching baby and nursery products there are so many things that I really wish we had known about. So.........

Babe-equip has been set up to make your life easier. We don't stock a massive range that you have to spend hours sifting through. We stock products that we believe in and either did or would have used ourselves. We ask friends to try them out and give us a review that we can pass on to you. We also try and give you the information that you need to make informed decisions. Let us know if you think we have missed anything.

If you have found a really great product that you would like to tell other parents about please let us know and we will try and stock it.

Mission Statement

Babe-equip aims to make it easy for parents shopping on line to find the right products for them. We offer products that we believe to be the best in their category based on quality, value for money and ease of use. We also aim to bring new innovation and eco friendly products so that parents can “do their bit" for the planet without it taking over their lives.

We only sell products that we would use for our own children.

Our Services

We do not intend to compete directly with the bigger retailers and we do not stock the number of lines that they hold. However we aim to offer a different service to that provided by our competitors, making the site easier to use and more information based, encouraging use of the blog as well as product reviews and to foster a community spirit with our customers.
We have a specific “eco friendly" section, which offers products that ease landfill, save energy or are made from natural and/or sustainable resources. Thus parents can go directly to this section without having to hunt through many categories to find what may be of interest.
The same applies to new innovation. We do the market research that parents now have to do so that we can offer what we believe are the best, most appropriate products in each category.
