What her Husband Thought

Service

Quality

Value

The decor is good. Classy, clean. The place was pretty empty when we arrived (7.45 on Monday) but filled up soon with what sounded like they'd become large noisy parties. I'm glad we got out quickly. She thinks the food was enjoyable enough, and it would have been at half price or less. The cooking was lazy and unremarkable - the use of spices was boring and predictable. Her salmon was probably cooked over the weekend (there's no way it could have been so overcooked in such a short time) and reheated - described as succulent, it was as moist as chalk. There was a mysterious unnamed item for ₤2.95 on the menu that I couldn't be bothered to challenge as I just wanted out, and she still left a ₤5 tip! The attentive service consisted of being asked four times during each course whether everything was OK (and not realising that a grimace and and "errr ... it's OK" possibly means it isn't). That's intrusive, not attentive. At ₤15+ per head (excluding drinks) it was ₤10 per head too much. She's right though: it's pretty good for Hinckley.

Interesting place. The food is nothing to rave about, but is enjoyable enough. The service is very nice and attentive. The decor is lovely. There is parking - it says Pet Store parking (they ought to get their own sign.) The one original touch is a widescreen TV showing a continuous stream of Bollywood music videos. It makes a nice change from just ethnic music and gives you something to talk about if the conversation flags. As my husband and I are both on restricted diets and I also have allergies we were a little limited in what we had. We had the Shoubzi Platta for two which included four (each) starters - the usual things like pakoras, all veg, very well executed, He had a couple of beers and Afghan Chana (a lamb and chick pea stew) which he liked all right. I had a dish of tandoori salmon on a bed of crushed potatoes and cauliflower. The salmon was overcooked and dry but tasty, The veg was too oily, but tasty. We had a bindi bhaji which was not all that good. I had a blue lagoon which I requested with soda water instead of lemonade and it was as specified. The prices are quite reasonable and they seemed to cope effortlessly with a large booking of over twenty. I'd say a 7 on a scale of 10. Of course this puts them pretty near the top in Hinckley.
