Combining Westernised boxing with martial arts kicks offers a great full body workout. The dynamic of needing to use both your legs and upper body strength means that you are toning all your muscles and learning a unique form of martial arts training.
Chief Instructor 'H' Willock is renowned nationally in the sport, producing world class kickboxing champions and has transformed the lifestyle and confidence for hundreds of men, women and children over his 30 years of teaching experience.
We will teach you how to use this form of martial arts simply as a tool for exercise or if you are interested you can progress in the classes to compete.
Many of our students say that kickboxing helps them feel empowered and confident as well as giving them a form of exercise thay they can enjoy. It is a sport that simulates the mind and develops inner strength and is a great way of getting rid of stress. People often say that kickboxing helps them lose weight and keep in shape through its full body workout.
At the Birmingham Martial Arts Centre we offer the leading style of karate with a 21st century approach, Wado Ryu Sport Karate. Wado Ryu translates as “the way of peace and harmony". Wado Ryu is taught all over the world, it is a style of karate derived from a mixture of Japnese Karate and Jui-jitsu. Wado Ryu is a free flowing and dynamic style of karate that is a lot less rigid than other traditional forms of martial arts.
One of the main differences of Wado Ryu compared to other forms of karate and martial arts is its use of evasion techniques which include manoeuvres to avoid being hit where possible and still maintaining the ability to strike your opponent back efficiently. Our trained instructors will show you the best practices for evading attacks and counter attacking in seamless moves.
Specialist karate classes for children aged between 4 and 7 years. This is a fantastic program to introduce children into a structured sport which delivers self discipline, fitness and confidence.

Everyone at The Battleground is extremely friendly and knowledgeable. I was quite nervous the first time I went but everyone makes you feel welcome. It's a great environment to train in as you're constantly learning off the instructors and other students. My confidence and fitness have improved ten fold in the six months I've been going. I'd recommend The Battleground to anyone.

I was nervous before I joined but everyone was friendly, the reason I started boxing to improve my fitness and strength. The training is good because I picked it up quickly and the coaches are great. I get constant feedback on the areas that I need to improve on.
