This wonderful family owned Coffee House/ Cafe is now under new ownership since 2017 and is Ormskirks Hidden Gem with wonderful food, friendly efficient staff, cosy welcoming environment and outdoor seating under cover of beautiful Church Walks. It really is a must visit when you are in Ormskirk.

You go to a coffee house because you want a coffee

I've been a regular visitor to Costa Coffee Shop in Ormskirk since it opened a couple of years ago. It's got to the stage where I'm actually on first name terms with the staff (i.e. too much spare time, need a hobby!).One afternoon in early September 2008 I decided that I would give Bramley's Coffee House a go. It's been in Ormskirk for a few years but I'd never tried it.I went with my girlfriend and as soon as we went in we were both impressed. It felt very traditional, homely and inviting when we first walked through the door.We walked upstairs to find a table and then waited for the waitress to take our order. This, unfortunately, is where our experience took a turn for the worst. We waited 10 minutes for the waitress to attend. This was not a problem, as we could clearly see that the cafe was quite busy. However, when I ordered our drinks - a capuccino and a hot chocolate - the waitress replied "ERM. I'LL HAVE TO CHECK WITH THE MANAGER." She returned within a few seconds to tell us that unless we were ordering food, we would not be able to buy drinks. I asked why and the waitress replied "I DON'T KNOW, BUT AT BUSY TIMES YOU HAVE TO BUY FOOD". The waitress was very polite and I can't fault her. She was merely following rules and she actually seemed a bit embarassed to tell me that I couldn't have a coffee. So, the moral of the story. IF ALL YOU WANT IS A RELAXING CUP OF COFFEE... DON'T GO TO BRAMLEY'S. Unless you're willing to buy food that you don't want.We decided to walk over to the old faithful, Costa, and got the usual friendly, quick service. The coffee tastes good there and best of all... in this coffee house they will let you buy coffee (even at busy times!).
