We provide a range of fertility treatments to help you achieve a healthy pregnancy and new baby. Clinics are led by Dr Uma Gordon, Consultant gynaecologist and specialist in Reproductive Medicine

Based at the Spire Bristol Hospital, the Bristol Fertility Clinic provides a range of fertility treatments to help those who are not able to conceive on their own. Clinics are led by Dr Uma Gordon, an obstetrician, IVF specialist and consultant gynaecologist with a specialism in Reproductive Medicine. We offer advice and treatments in all aspects of assisted conception, gynaecology, endoscopic surgery and male infertility.

Treatment that suits your individual needs

One in six couples experience problems in conceiving, so you are not alone. However, your experience is always personal and your care should reflect your own individual circumstances. It is with this understanding of both the physical and emotional elements involved in fertility that I base my holistic, comprehensive and evidence based advice and treatment. The aim is to work together, at your pace, to agree a pathway of care and treatment that suits your individual needs.

YOUR FIRST CONSULTATION

You will have an hour long initial consultation as it will involve full medical history including life style, examination, discussion of any test results, individual prognosis in your case and management options available to you.

Supporting your treatment elsewhere & abroad

For some patients, their chosen treatment pathway is to have fertility treatment abroad and here at the Spire Bristol Hospital, Mrs Gordon is able to support your treatment whilst you are in the UK.

The assisted conception (IVF or ICSI) pathway requires regular scans and for some patients they will additionally require blood tests at specific intervals whilst back in the UK. Mrs Gordon offers a 30 minute consultation and scan specifically to support this treatment which is undertaken abroad. Blood tests can be arranged as required and we can arrange a quote for any tests if they do not fit the profiles above.

Costs

Consultation with Consultant (Uma Gordon): £240
Consultation with Fertility Specialist (Charline Villa): £210
Scan only: £180

When can I be seen?

The simple answer is as soon as possible, if this is what you want.
Couples have different preferences as to how they would like to begin their journey. You may wish to come in straight away for a consultation and organise the required tests as you go along, or you may prefer to have some or all of the tests done before the consultation. This is entirely up to you how you wish to pace your care and Mrs Gordon is happy to accommodate your preferences.
It would be helpful and Mrs Gordon would recommend a referral from your GP, but this again is not always necessary.

In many instances, your GP may have already completed some or all of the blood tests including a primary semen analysis. Please obtain a copy of these and bring them in for the Consultation. Alternatively these tests can be undertaken privately here at the Spire Bristol Hospital.

What can I expect at the first consultation?

You will have an hour long initial consultation as it will involve full medical history including life style, examination, discussion of any test results, individual prognosis in your case and management options available to you. It is important that we understand all the factors that may be affecting you so that we can formulate an effective treatment plan.

You will be asked questions on the following topics:

How long you have been trying to get pregnant
Menstrual History
Medical History
Sexual History
Family History
Lifestyle factors, including intake of caffeine, alcohol, smoking and your weight/BMI
Any medications and allergies

We will then review all the blood tests that you have brought along with you and any semen analysis results, if appropriate. We will also perform a pelvic ultrasound scan within the consultation room to get a clearer understanding of the function of your uterus and ovaries.

We can discuss any questions you may have and plan the next steps forward that are right for you.

IN VITRO FERTILISATION (IVF)

In vitro fertilisation (IVF) is an assisted conception technique used to treat all forms of infertility other than those involving a male factor problem.

SURGICAL SPERM RECOVERY (SSR)

Surgical sperm recovery (SSR) techniques are now routinely available, which allow the sperm to be removed directly from the epididymis (collecting tube) or the testicle. The sperm thus collected is then used to fertilise the eggs using the ICSI procedure.

Testimonials

We are extremely grateful to Mrs Gordon for the professional advice, support and kindness that she showed us all the way through our journey to the birth of our gorgeous son. I feel Mrs Gordon really understood what it was like to be on the other side, as a patient; she clearly listened to us and was so kind and supportive. Her expert advice allowed us to make the right choices for us, this ultimately meant treatment abroad with her support here in the UK. With her guidance I believe we were able to avoid a potentially long journey in the wrong direction which was crucial given that time was running out for us.

EH , Bristol

We were very lucky to have Dr Gordon as our consultant. We had been trying for a baby for over 3 years when we came to see her and things had not gone well for us with another clinic. Even at our first consultation, Dr Gordon saw the results of tests taken at our previous clinic and diagnosed both of us with conditions that they had missed. This was just one of several instances where Dr Gordon’s care and precision made a difference that led to the successful conception and birth of our treasured son on our second cycle of ICSI/IVF under her supervision. We are now back under her care again as we are hoping for a second child.
