To ensure you can drive your vehicle in the UK, you must meet the following

A valid driving license
A Great Britain (GB) issued a full or provisional (for learners only) driving license. Please check GOV.UK's non-GB licence checker to see if you can drive in GB with your non-GB Driving License.

Have current Vehicle Tax
To tax your vehicle, you must have either a new logbook or a V11 reminder to tax your vehicle. Check Tax Your Vehicle for more information. Tax is NOT transferable when you change the owners of a vehicle. Any outstanding refunds will be processed automatically by DVLA.

Have a valid MOT
Use our free basic checker to see the MOT status of a car. Any accredited garage will run an MOT test on a vehicle, which tests that you meet the road safety and environmental safety standards. This is done every year after the 3rd anniversary of the vehicle registration.

Have at least 3rd party motor insurance.
Every vehicle must be driven by someone who has valid insurance of at least 3rd party; this has been a legal requirement since the Road Traffic Act 1930. Motor insurance provides financial protection if you have an accident, and it can also cover injuries to other drivers, pedestrians, and passengers in your car.
