What is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic is a primary health-care profession that specialises in the diagnosis, treatment and overall management of conditions that are due to problems with the joints, ligaments, tendons and nerves, especially related to the spine. Chiropractic treatment mainly involves safe, often gentle, specific spinal manipulation to free joints in the spine or other areas of the body that are not moving properly.
Apart from manipulation, chiropractors may use a variety of techniques including ice, heat, soft tissue therapy, sports massage, postural rehabilitation and exercise as well as advice about diet and lifestyle. Although chiropractors are best known for treating back and neck pain, which they do very well, patients also consult chiropractors regarding a range of other, related conditions.

Felisa Pham B.A.(psych), D.C.

Enter a longer description here..Felisa Pham started out her career in the U.S.A. as a counselor after graduating with a B.A. in Psychology. She went on to earn her Doctor of Chiropractic (D.C.) degree with honours from Life Chiropractic College-West, California in 1999.
She moved from California to London two years later, initially to work as an associate Chiropractor, and went on to establish her own clinic in London where she practiced for over 14 years before moving to Clanfield.
Felisa Pham believes that along with chiropractic treatments, it is important to raise patients' awareness about broader health issues; injury prevention, rehabilitation, exercise, nutrition, posture and ergonomics, to empower them to take an active role in their continuing health.
She has a keen interest in her ongoing professional development and has done post-graduate courses on specialist techniques within the chiropractic field, how chiropractic can benefit women during pregnancy and pediatrics care. She is also interested in posture and spinal rehabilitation and is a Chiropractic Biophysics certified practitioner.

Who needs Chiropractic care?

For over 100 years, chiropractors have been diagnosing, treating and working preventatively with conditions that affect the neuromusculoskeletal (nerves, muscles, tendons, joints and ligaments) systems, with particular interest in the spinal joints. Chiropractic is suitable for all ages and stages of life, (from expectant mums, to those over 70s), with care tailored to the needs of the individual. Our hands-on approach includes a wide range of therapies, including manipulation (adjustments), mobilisation, soft tissue therapy, and rehabilitative exercise. The aim is to restore and maintain improved function of joints and soft tissues, thus relieving symptoms and improving the health of the body.
Chiropractic care can help people with:
Back pain / Sciatica
Neck / Shoulder Pain
Arthritic pain
Headaches
Hip / Knee / Ankle problems
Sports injuries
Work related strain
Postural related conditions

Sports Massage

Sports massage is a form of massage that aims to improve the suppleness and flexibility of muscles and joints, improve blood circulation, speed up the healing of damaged or stressed muscles, tissues and joints, and prevent muscle and tendon injuries. Sports massage incorporates a variety of different techniques including deep massage, trigger point therapy and stretching.
Sports massage is not just for sports performers and is effective in relieving many of the day-to-day aches and pains that everyone experiences.
Some of the main benefits include:
Treatment of Sports Injuries
Relieving Muscle Tension
Increasing Flexibility
Improving sports performance
Improve Posture
Break down scar tissue
Speed up tissue repair
Reduce the recovery period following an injury

Lymphatic Drainage Therapy

Tired and run down? Lymphatic drainage therapy is a highly specialised form of massage, which uses light, rhythmical, very precise hand movements, pressures and sequences and requires the therapist to develop a great degree of skill, having an intimate knowledge of the workings of the anatomy of the lymphatic system. The massage works at a skin level to influence the direction and speed of lymphatic flow, re-directing if necessary.
Beneficial of Lymphatic Drainage Therapy
Increasing the level of oxygen in the blood
Relieves fluid congestion
Boosting the immune system
Decreasing muscle toxins
Improving circulation

Pregnancy Massage

Enter a longer description here..During pregnancy your body goes through major structural, physiological, and psychological changes. Carrying a baby inside you changes your center of gravity and puts a lot of stress on your back, neck, abdominal muscles, and shoulders. Pregnancy also relaxes your ligaments, so that your pelvic joints are less stable, and changes your posture, pulling your pelvis forward. Add to that the extra weight you're carrying and may produce aches and pains. Pregnancy massage can ease these discomforts and help provide a feeling of relaxation and well-being. It also can help an expectant mother prepare physically and emotionally for the changes that will occur during the time of pregnancy.
Benefits that a mother may experience:
Reduces swelling in hands, feet and ankles
Lessens sciatic pain
Eases muscular discomforts in areas like the low back and neck
Helps with relaxation which in turn can decrease insomnia
Stimulates the release of endorphins, the body's natural painkillers, into the brain and nervous system.

Postural and Rehabilitation Program

Posture is the position in which we hold our bodies while standing, sitting or lying down. Your posture directly affects your health. When posture is bad, pressure on your spine is increased. This can lead to tension, soreness, headaches, back pain and fatigue. Postural imbalance also compresses your internal organs, reducing their efficiency and proper function. This may cause such issues as respiratory problems, chest tightness, high blood pressure or poor digestion.
The postural and rehabilitation program focuses on performing a detailed postural analysis that assesses you for changes in stance, leveling of the hips and pelvis, increase in the spinal curvatures, variations to gait (walking), height difference across the shoulders and tilting of the head and neck. Once the postural analysis is completed a system of postural awareness techniques and corrective exercises are implemented simultaneously to stimulate, retrain and strengthen your body in order to facilitate a return to normal posture.
Some benefits of good posture:
Keeps bones and joints in the correct alignment so that muscles, tendons and ligaments are being used properly
Helps decrease the abnormal wearing of joint surfaces
Increase energy
Reduces and can prevent repetitive strain
Prevents muscles fatigue
Prevents backache and muscular pain
Contributes to a good appearance

When is it time to consult a headache specialist?

If the frequency of your headaches is increasing
If the duration of your headaches is increasing
If the intensity of your headaches is worsening
If the associated symptoms are getting worse
If you are starting to feel like you are experiencing more headache days than non-headache days
If your headache medications are no longer as effective
If your headaches are interfering with your ability to function at work, school or home
If your headaches are affecting your social life
If you are afraid to leave the house because of the fear of getting another headache.

Testimonials

"I came in with a very painful elbow, which caused a lot of pain when doing housework, gardening and would keep me awake at night. This made me quite irritable and low. What I’ve learned and how chiropractic care has improved the way I function and is that my elbow pain has been feeling much better and I can now sleep all night. Also, I can do my chores, but I do take it easy not to put too much strain on it. Best of all, I can go back to doing things I really enjoy, like gardening, but I’m resting up over the winter and keeping up with my exercise. To maintain a healthy lifestyle, I am continuing to visit Felisa once a month to keep body and myself in good working order."
