About

Operational Management Support

Commercial Operator Training Solutions Ltd are specialists in advising clients on any matter relating to Operator Licensing, driver and commercial training and tachograph analysis. Our services extend to offering an interim Operational Support Package, either in the way of short term help or guidance in getting your systems to the required standard or ongoing monthly support by a fully qualified CPC holder.

Driver Handbooks

Commercial Operator Training Solutions Ltd is able to provide customers with driver handbooks tailored to their operational needs. You decide the content and we do the rest! Working with one of our members of staff, COTS and the customer will agree broad content details – generally, for the truck, coach or bus operator. This will include sections on drivers' hours, daily vehicle checks, what to do in the event of an accident etc. but of course, anything else that is important to you can be included. Typically we have included sections on projecting loads and standard procedures for delivering waste to transfer stations for our truck operators, or assisting wheelchair users and assessing pick-up and drop-off points for our coach operators.

About Us

Commercial Operator Training Solutions Ltd (COTS) was established in 2009 by its current Managing Director Jason Mowforth. The business was established to provide a comprehensive and relevant set of courses to comply with the requirements of the Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (Driver CPC) Regulations, compliance advice on Operator licensing and tachograph analysis.

COTS very quickly added a range of courses leading to the Operator Certificate of Professional Competence for both LGV and PSV Transport Managers and increased the services relating to helping the operator comply with the undertakings made on the Operator licence.

Later, we added ADR – Dangerous Goods and other practical courses to these two existing arms of the business including LGV driver licence aquisition for categories B+E, C and C+E and practical training for HIAB, tail lift, gantry crane, shunter training, etc. We have maintained our SQA and OCR Grade 1 status for the past 4 years.

Commercial Training is at the core of our business, working with some of Wales’ largest organisations and with customers throughout England; quality is integral in what we do as we are currently working towards ISO 9001 accreditation. Between us our staff have many years of experience on the operational and enforcement side of both the LGV and PSV sectors and are therefore extremely well placed to provide relevant solutions to your problems.

All of our Driver CPC courses have been designed to enable the driver and operator to mix and match their particular needs whilst satisfying the requirements of the Directive and the Joint Approvals Unit for Periodic Training (JAUPT). Our Operator CPC is delivered using the OCR syllabus and we have consistently achieved Grade 1 centre status since the company started.

We are proud to be members of NDGTC (The National Dangerous Goods Training Consortium). The NDGTC is recognised by the DfT, DSA and SQA and consists of a group of nationally distributed training centres. Members provide high standards of dangerous goods training delivered by experienced instructors. To become an NDGTC member and obtain DfT approval, training organisations have to meet laid down standards for facilities, equipment and instructor qualifications that ensures quality of service.

Our practical FLT and HIAB training is delivered under the RTITB Accreditation scheme – RTITB are approved and listed as an accrediting organisation by the Health & Safety Commission (HSC) in the Approved Code of Practice (ACoP) for Lift Truck Operator Training.

We are ELCAS and CTP approved and are able to provide a full package of training for anyone qualifying under the HM Forces resettlement training scheme. Our regular attendance in York, Hanover, Guttersloh, Herford and Paderborn Barracks means that COTS are fast becoming one of the UK’s leading providers of resettlement training packages. Our approach includes many unique services provided to the military with a number of students walking into logistics roles following their training with COTS.

This is a very unprofessional provider of CPC driver training. Big waste of money, I wish that I had kept it under the mattress. The place is like a dump and I ended the coursefeeling very disgruntled. I have since qualified at Main Port Training in Port Talbot.

Testimonials

To whom it may concern I completed Commercial Operator Training Solutions’ (COTS) ‘Certificate of Professional Competence for Transport Managers (Road Haulage)’ distance learning course at the end of 2012 after leaving the British Army. I found their online lessons and printed notes very easy to follow and clear to understand. I was able to contact my tutor for guidance when needed and he was very quick to get back to me. The office staff were always very helpful and booked an exam for me at my local centre. I also attended the three day case study training and found that it really gave me a good grasp of what would be expected on the day of the exam. In summary, I unreservedly recommend COTS and its courses.

To whom it may concern, My name is Tim Davies and I am employed as Transport Manager at CWM Environmental Ltd in Carmarthen. I have had the pleasure of working with COTS since they started operating in 2009, where they carry out our analysis on both digital and analogue tachographs. They also carry out our Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (Driver CPC) training on an annual basis and now recently started LGV and HGV training with our current employees. The team are very professional and easy to deal with, always provide a service tailored to our requirements and are always at the end of the phone for any operational support.
