EMDR is an acronym for ‘Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing'. EMDR is a powerful psychological treatment method that was developed by an American clinical psychologist, Dr Francine Shapiro, in the 1980s. As a Senior Research Fellow at the Mental Research Institute, she published the first research data to support the benefits of the therapy in 1989.It is a psychotherapy that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of disturbing life experiences. Repeated studies show that by using EMDR therapy, people can experience the benefits of psychotherapy that once took years, to make a difference. It is widely assumed that severe emotional pain requires a long time to heal. EMDR therapy shows that the mind can in fact heal from psychological trauma much as the body recovers from physical trauma.

I am a qualified Supervisor, having gained a post graduate certificate in person centered theory and practice .I work with counselors in training and experienced professionals.I have worked in a range of settings, including Rape Crisis, Self Harm crisis line, Social services mental health services, FE, NHS Talking therapies,as Director and Counsellor for a CIC delivering free therapy and have had a private practice for 8 years.I now work full time as a private practitioner.Having worked in different settings I can also bring awareness to the sessions, of the way structures and organisational roles impact our work.
Supervision is a place to share your work, your concerns, identify blind spots, gain perspective and to identify areas for training and development. BACP guidelines specify 1.5 hours per month as a minimum for practicing counselors and this is an opportunity to explore your practice, ensure you are working safely, work through ethical dilemmas and to ensure the safety of your clients and your well being.
I see Supervision as the responsibility of both Supervisor and Supervisee, developing a relationship which supports the practice of counselling, professional development and personal resilience.Thinking about what you want from your sessions, will ensure you get the most from them.I will endeavor to meet you wherever you are in your career or in developing a practice.
Exploring the way we work as clinicians and evaluating this is vital to support our work. This includes the personal implications of working with distress, understanding oneself through personal growth and experience, managing issues around self-esteem, both personal and professional, and developing the ability to be present and available to the client in our professional role that we experience as authentic and resilient.
I think it is helpful to offer an understanding of the theory of a range of approaches and having studied in Psycho-dynamic Psychotherapy, Integrative Psychotherapy, Humanistic Counselling, Person Centered Supervision and EMDR, as well as working, to deliver solution focused services; I can offer a broad range from my own experience.Theory can support us in our practice and is helpful to stay focused within our work.
Please feel free to contact me, to discuss your requirements for Supervision.I can offer a half hour session, at no cost ,to allow us both to assess our capacity for working togethe
