About

Welcome

A newly established physiotherapy and sports injury clinic located in Phoenix Performance Centre on South road Haywards Heath right above Cooperative Supermarket and the new Post Office.

As a physiotherapist I believe in holistic approach when treating an individual patient/ client. I enjoy being both creative and applying evidence based treatment modalities in my work in order to accelerate my patient's recovery, with the ultimate aim of having them return to healthy normal life, work or sports activities.

I have had the opportunity to work in neurological, orthopaedic, geriatrics, post stroke and sports physiotherapy settings. Additionally, I have worked as a special group's rehabilitation instructor in the metropolitan Helsinki, Finland. I highly appreciate this experience as it has broadened not only my clinical reasoning but it has also enhanced my holistic perception of patient care.

I am a strong advocate of intensive interdisciplinary rehabilitation because I believe it enriches our clinical reasoning base in patient care. I strive to help my patients achieve their goals by optimizing their functional ability and decreasing their reliance on pain relieving medication.

I enjoy helping my clients achieve their full potential and I'm committed to providing the best fitting advice and exercise scheme.

Postural Analysis

Postural changes are major causes of musculoskeletal pain and can lead to development of secondary problems, such as cardiovascular complications. Postural alignment and control can be affected by for example underlying congenital abnormality, ageing, degenerative disease, and previous injury or lifestyle changes.

In some cases there might be a primary cause that, when left untreated or improperly treated in acute phase, can develop into a chronic problem. This primary problem area predisposes other adjacent tissue or joints to damage. Human body responds to this wider damaging by “adaptation through compensation" which means that the biomechanical function of the affected structures may be compromised creating “global postural control changes".

If these changes are diagnosed and treated in acute stages, further deterioration of movement can be alleviated and tissue integrity can be preserved.

A combination of appropriate examination, strategic clinical reasoning, well structured intervention and re-examination are the key to solving each patient's problem. In complex situations, however, a multi-professional approach is required.

If you have had an injury, major orthopaedic operation, or you are experiencing musculoskeletal pain do not hesitate to seek advice and get a diagnosis and treatment.

I strive to achieve this by performing a detailed postural analysis and relevant diagnostic tests during your initial visit. This applies for all our clients and is aimed at cross-checking any biomechanical abnormalities that may affect your posture and function.

To facilitate the thorough testing, each patient/client is requested to bring with them a pair of shorts to change into for examination purposes.

Acute and Chronic Back and Neck Pain

Current occupational demands and lifestyle changes are increasingly challenging not only to humans' mental but also physical performance. Demands of working life, social life, hobbies and culture have resulted in the deprivation of the time we dedicate to our own health and wellbeing.

Some people think that because their work is physically demanding, it makes them stronger and therefore they do not need further muscular strengthening: “My work involves a lot of physical lifting so I do not need to specifically train or strengthen my muscles". Overuse injuries are often aggravated by misconceptions between occupational strain and physical fitness.

On the contrary, “occupational related fitness" tends to excessively strain a certain group of muscles or joints, which can in turn develop into overuse or repetitive injury. Testing and examinations will be aimed at identifying any musculoskeletal strains and their main causes which can then be treated.

Pre- and Post-Operative Rehabilitation

Pre-operative physiotherapy aims at reducing complications before and after an operation. Pre-operative treatment deals with preserving joint integrity by reducing swelling and infection risks and preserving neural tissues function and venous tissue.

Swelling after an orthopaedic surgery is common and can have adverse effects on joint's peripheral tissue and its functioning. Swelling is mainly due to damage to the soft tissue, fluid formation and retention, scar tissue formation and immobilization. Immobilization leads to muscular loss and decreased range of motion. These may lead to inadequate blood circulation, poor or decresed functioning of nerves and low activation of the muscles.

Adequate range of motion ensures not only proper biomechanical function in the affected limb/joint but also appropriate flow of lymph. These can be achieved by both mobilisation and application of other clinical therapeutic modalities.
