About

The Fowey Hotel

The Fowey Hotel is renowned for its friendly, relaxed atmosphere and high standards. Many of the 37, individually decorated, en suite bedrooms offer panoramic sea or estuary views, as do all of the public rooms.

The hotel is set in attractive gardens and also has a second, beautifully landscaped garden area just across the Esplanade, right by the water's edge. In this garden, one can enjoy a traditional Cornish Cream Tea on lazy summer days or, alternatively, from the hotel's pretty terrace overlooking the gardens and water.

Eating at The Fowey

The Fowey's restaurant has been awarded a coveted AA Rosette award for exceptional food and an extensive wine list compliments every menu, which changes daily. The menus offer a choice of dishes using the best of Cornish produce based on what is seasonally available, all of which are skilfully prepared by a very experienced kitchen brigade, led by Master Chef Mark Griffiths. A comprehensive Bar menu is also available at lunchtimes and in the evenings.

Wonderful Fowey

Whether you love water-based activities, want to meander round beautiful gardens or take long (or leisurely!) strolls along the coast path, The Fowey Hotel provides a wonderful base from which to explore all the delights of Cornwall.

The town of Fowey is a delightful seafront town, with interesting, quirky shops and plenty to explore. Boat trips to towns, villages and creeks along the south Cornish coast are readily available and it's only a short drive to many of Cornwall's best attractions.

The Fowey Hotel is one of Cornwalls hidden treasures. This beautiful luxury Cornish hotels idyllic location sets the scene for a relaxing peaceful and enjoyable stay.

We stayed for two nights at the Fowey Hotel, an old Victorian hotel dating back to 1882, which sits on a hill offering magnificent views over the Fowey estuary. The hotel is located about a 5 minute walk from the heart of town, via the Esplanade. Not all rooms have a view, but we specifically booked a "Premier Room" to guarantee a view, and found on arrival that we had been upgraded to the "Honeymoon Suite"! While not as luxurious as it sounds, the views from the room were gorgeous, and we even had a small private balcony.Parking is of a premium in Fowey, and you can request car parking at the hotel when you book (£10 per night). If successful (there are limited spots), a space will be pre-allocated to you, and will be marked with your name before you arrive. We found the staff to be friendly and helpful for the most part, especially one of the porters, Stewart, who was filled with information and suggestions. There is a relaxing bar and lounge area which is a great place for a drink or afternoon tea - we enjoyed both while gazing out the large windows to the water views. The restaurant is an impressive looking room, and it serves up decent breakfasts and dinners, with a view from some tables (book in advance if you want one).

While staying at the Fowey Hotel we ate one night in the hotel's grand looking restaurant. As we were hotel guests, and we booked our table in advance, we were given a considerable discount on the cost of a 3 course meal.We started with the Ham Hock, Pork Belly and Foie Gras Terrine, with Pickled Beetroot and Apple Puree, which was happily devoured; and the Prosciutto Parcel, with Mozzarella and Mediterranean vegetables, which was pretty terrible IMO.Main course was Chicken served with Rosti, asparagus and tomatoes; and some sort of fish (maybe Sea Bream) with various accompaniments. Can't remember the full details of these dishes, though they were enjoyable enough and nicely cooked. Dessert was a Dark Chocolate Fondant with Honeycomb ice cream. It wasn't cooked quite long enough, and was so rich I was unable to eat it all.The food wasn't particularly special, but it was a nice evening, and certainly worth a visit if you can get a table by the window.
