The Groundlings Theatre Company was founded by Professional Actor Richard Stride in 2000 and is based in Portsmouth, England. In Shakespeare�s time the audience at the Globe Theatre who stood in the �ground� area to watch his plays were the humblest and often riotous of the people. They were known as �The Groundlings�. It is from this Richard took the name.
