Welcome to the countryside in spring. A beautiful hillside of fresh green ffills the view. The bulbs show enthusiasm for the lengthening days. Birds mark their territory with song. Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall are open after their winter slumber. Bakewell has welcoming pubs, beautiful gardens and delicious menus to tempt. We're Bill & Marilyn Nichols. Our farmhouse is a great place to stay in Bakewell, the heart of the Peak District National Park on the ancient Haddon Hall estate.
The Victorian building of mellow stone was built for a wealthy family on the site of the ancient lost manor of Burton. Our beautiful farm nestles in a magical valley where romance and dynasties have made history. The sparkling River Wye meanders energetically through the meadows. You'll probably be familiar already with the fabulous Peak District, having seen it used as the backdrop in films such as "Pride & Prejudice", Keira Knightley in "The Duchess", Natalie Portman & Scarlet Johansson in "The Other Boleyn Girl", Cate Blanchett and Joseph Fiennes in "Elizabeth". Anthony Hopkins and Emily Blunt have been filming the remake of "The Wolf Man" at Chatsworth House (to be released this autumn). It's a great place to enjoy your precious time away.
We've fabulous individually themed rooms with king size beds, including two romantic 4 posters. Have a look at the next page for pictures of great bedrooms you'll never want to leave - everything you've hoped for when imagining a blissful quiet time away with your favourite person. Sumptuous linen, loads of comfy pillows and bolsters, quality beds that give long uninterrupted and blissful nights of deep sleep, awakening to the treat of a whole day of fun stretching before you. Our home is at the heart of the amazing and surprising Peak District National Park. Here you'll find the best rolling countryside with views of near and distant hills, stone walls, leafy field margins and mile-high skies. We have maps and guide books for you to borrow, and informed advice where you might like to spend your day. Public footpaths are at our door - either hilltop or riverside walks beckon. Of course, you'll be welcome to wander on our 400 acre farm. The Haddon Hall estate has paths and lanes connecting with the Chatsworth House estate - up and over the hill and down the valley beyond - well away from all traffic - just you and the birds!
