Our roots
In 1988, the business division of a Glasgow court firm was converted into a separate commercial practice. The new start was Harpers, which subsequently took over a niche corporate firm called Macleods to become Harper Macleod.
With a home in Gairloch and strong links to the Highlands and Islands, it was no surprise when Chairman and founding Partner Lorne Crerar led the move for Harper Macleod to open an Inverness office in 2004. Since then, we have grown to be one of the largest law firms in the area, and the biggest Scottish law firm with a permanent presence in the Highlands and Islands. In 2012 we opened an office in Thurso and in 2015 moved into Shetland by joining forces with one of the isles' biggest firms to create Harper Macleod incorporating Dowle, Smith & Rutherford. In 2016 we doubled the size of our Inverness office, and added the firm of Allen & Shaw to our ranks in the city, giving us a team of 27 people in the Inverness office alone.
Our team on the ground provides a full range of legal services to our clients in Inverness and the rest of the Highlands and Islands.
