Learning to play an instrument is a journey in self-expression as well as one towards technical mastery. Thus, I focus on building solid technique from the outset to enable the greatest facility for expression. At the same time I encourage pupils to select pieces they will enjoy learning and performing. Most of my pupils also improvise and compose their own music. I am delighted to help prepare and coach them for concert and Grade Exam performances. It is important to perform as early as possible, and thus I encourage pupils and actively seek opportunities for them to gain this experience. Performing builds confidence and it is for many the reason for music.
