Runflat tyres

Hometyre specialise in the fitting of runflat tyres to the likes of BMW's, Mini's, Lexus and Fords. These are difficult tyres to fit, and some tyre depots cannot fit them. Hometyre can supply and fit these runflat tyres using special assistor arms on our tyre changing machine - give us a call to see what we can offer.

Laser wheel alignment (Tracking)

Hometyre vans carry laser alignment equipment, so that your vehicle can be aligned (Tracked) on site.
Alignment will improve the handling of your vehicle, as well as saving on fuel consumption and improving tyre wear.
Vehicles should be traced every time you have new tyres fitted, or if you hit a kerb or pothole at any time.

Locking wheel nut removals

Have you lost or damaged your locking wheel nut key? Then give us a call at Hometyre, we have specialist tools that can remove 100% of locking wheel nuts without damaging your wheels. There are two types of tool we use depending on the locknut, one is invasive and will damage the nut, the other will not. But either way, since you have lost the 'Key', you will need replacements anyway. Hometyre do not supply these replacements. Please don't waste your money on the cheap ebay / halfords removal tools, as these only work on a small percentage of soft nuts, they will not work on the hardened nuts or the ones with revolving collars. Plus you may damage the locking wheel nut further, and our tool will then not work. Leaving the costly option of cutting your wheel off.

Tyre Pressure Monitoring valves (TPMS)

Many new vehicles are fitted with sensor valves, these check your tyre pressures continously and inform you of any drop in pressure. These valves can be easily damaged or the batteries in them can run out, making them malfunction. Either way we can replace them at better that dealer prices. Of if you would like a complete set fitting, then we can retro fit a complete system using a 'tyresure' kit with a dash mountable monitor.

Caravan tyres

Hometyre specialise in fitting tyres to Caravans / Motorhomes at your home, storage site or even at a campsite. Why hitch up your caravan and tow it to a tyre depot? We will ensure that we jack up your caravan correctly, so as to not damage or twist the frame in anyway. Tyron bands

Tyron bands are mainly fitted to Caravans to give a short 'Runflat' capability, allowing you to get to a garage or place of safety in the case of a blow out.
Tyron bands are fitted to Police cars, ambulances, and fire trucks, to allow them to keep moving (under control) with a flat tyre. So for peace of mind, why not have tyrons, fitted to your Caravan, Motorhome or trailer.

Garages cheating customers

Called out to a customer who had been advised by his local garage during a service, that he needed 4 new tyres as they were on the legal tread depth limit. He decided to use Hometyre as the prices were better. When I came to do the fitting, yes the fronts were on the limit, but the rears had between 5 and 6 mm of tread left ! Informed the customer, and only changed for the two front tyres. Result: Satisfied customer who saved a load of ££££'s - and as for the local garage , he won't trust them again = Lost customer. March 8th. Just had another customer who was told he needed two new tyres on the rear of his Landrover. One had 2mm tread (Legal but could do with being changed) the other had 7mm tread (almost new) he also had a new spare, so I put that on for him and used the 2mm tread tyre as a spare, saving the customer loads. He should also have been informed of the 4mm rule concerning 4x4 vehicles.

Why you need an environmental certificate to store tyres.

A Chesterfield man received a suspended prison sentence after illegally storing thousands of tyres and transporting some of them to Vietnam. Andrew Revell, aged 50, of The Green, Hasland appeared at Derby Crown Court on Friday, January 27th.In the case brought by the Environment Agency, he admitted five charges in relation to an illegal waste operation called Revco Recycling Limited, which he ran from a unit on the former GKN site in Sheepsbridge, Chesterfield.Revell was sentenced to a 12-month prison sentence suspended for two years on each of the five charges, ordered to do 200 hours unpaid work and ordered to pay full court costs of £9,578.75.Barrister Ben Lawrence, acting on behalf of the Environment Agency, said officers first visited Revco Recycling Limited in October 2009. They saw up to 4,000 tyres stored on the Sheepbridge site, which was not covered by the necessary Environmental Permit from the Environment Agency.The court heard how staff repeatedly visited the site and advised Revell and his wife on the permitting regulations and told them to take immediate steps to reduce the amount of waste.In May 2010, staff searched the site office and found documents that showed that the company received around 15,600 tyres between November 16th and December 11th 2009. They also found evidence that Revell had supplied a further 1,283 tyres to a company called KA Tyres.They estimated that there was around 25,000 tyres on the site, and following the visit, Revell told staff that he had stopped collecting and baling waste tyres. He maintained though that he was allowed to store the remaining tyres under an existing exemption agreement.Mr Lawrence told the court that in July staff then learned that Revco Recycling Limited was also using another unit on the Sheepsbridge site which hadn't been disclosed to them. A search of the property revealed around 400 bales of tyres inside, 260 bales outside and a further 160 loose tyres.The court heard this brought the total of tyres amassed by Revell and his company to around 65,700 along with some cement bonded asbestos boards.The Environment Agency team arrested Andrew Revell in June 2010 and among the documentation found on the site were shipping notes for waste tyres from Ireland and to export to Vietnam.Mr Lawrence told magistrates that exporting waste tyres to Vietnam was illegal, however, documentation showed the company was being paid around 40p per tyre and it could export tyres at 3,000 per load - at an approximate profit of £990 per container.In mitigation, the court heard that Revell had cleared the site himself, costing over £30,000. The profits the Environment Agency claim were made, were actually substantially less when running costs were taken into account. Revell was running the business to support his family and no other reason and that he had pleaded guilty and had no previous convictions.After the case, Environment Agency officer Lindsay Jones said: "Revell not only showed blatant disregard for our own environmental laws but also European law which governs the wellbeing of people in another country."This court case shows that people who seek to maximise their profits at the expense of the environment can expect to be tracked down and placed before the courts." Falken produce a special tyre for RangeRovers other SUV s

Owners of the Range Rover Sport can now specify a Falken tyre designed to improve the stability, feel and noise of their SUVsOwners of the Range Rover Sport and other performance SUVs can now specify a tyre exclusively designed to improve the stability, feel and noise of their SUVs from Japanese manufacturer Falken. Falken's Azenis FK453CC is specifically created to meet the exacting demands of the performance SUV market, a booming sector of the 4x4 sector. To deliver the unique stability and higher speed requirements, coupled with the increased loading experienced with sportier SUVs, the Azenis FK453CC features a more warp-resistant casing construction than comparable tyres in its segment. Secondly, the NUR-Spec design incorporates an additional, nylon-reinforced cover ply and more rigid sidewalls to improve stability, even at speeds up to 186mph. This construction is complemented by a rounder tyre shoulder shape to optimise pressure deployment on the tread area. The result is a 21 percent improvement in steering stability over the previous S/TZ01 offering. With larger rim sizes and lower profiles commonplace on performance SUVs, Falken has also addressed the noise issue that is widely experienced and endured by drivers and passengers. 'Thanks to the rounder shoulder and phase-shifted tread bars, pass-by noise is reduced by 15 percent compared with the tyre's predecessor,' says Yukio Yoshida, Falken Tyre Europe's corporate planning director. Renowned for its ability to provide exceptional performance often at lower price point, Falken has ensured the FK453CC retains the sporting characteristics enjoyed by its enthusiasts. Silica percentage has been increased over the tyre's predecessor to achieve stronger interaction with the road surface, further enhancing steering responsiveness and handling. Dry handling in particular is improved, with grip levels up 14 percent compared to the predecessor. Rigorous testing and benchmarking, including an extensive evaluation at the Nürburgring, leads Falken to believe its FK453CC surpasses its competitors in terms of high speed stability, wet and dry handling and hydroplaning resistance.'Resistance to hydroplaning, critical for heavier and taller SUVs, is up seven percent improvement thanks to advances in tread pattern,' continued Yoshida. 'Three central tread grooves in the tread design allow efficient water deflection. A recent survey carried out by an independant tyre specialist for Tyresure, found that of 50 part worn tyres they purchased, only 1 was legal for use in the UK.

Slow puncture repair

A slow puncture repair can be caused by a number of reasons, a small hole in the tyre, a leaking valve, a split alloy, or a leaking rim. We cannot fix a split alloy, but we can repair the other problems.
The leaking rim is often caused by a paint chip causing the alloy to bubble letting air out from under the paint. We remove the tyre, clean off the old loose paint and apply a sealer, before refitting the tyre with a new valve.

Wheel vibration

If you feel a vibration through your steering wheel (Often at around 65mph) This is often a sign that your front wheels may be out of balance . Hometyre have an electronic wheel balancing machine of their vans, and can soon re-balance your wheels, removing the vibration problem.
A vibration you feel through your seat, can mean the rear wheels are out of balance, again we can re-balance these wheels.
There is the odd possibility that there could be other problems, such as a bulge in a tyre.

Rolls Royce Tyres

One of this weeks jobs was to fit 16 tyres for the new Rolls Royce Wraith. The work was carried out at the Rolls Royce Motor Car Company in Goodwood. These were 21" Continental Contiseal tyres, which are special tyres lined with a sticky patch that seals around any item piercing the tyre effectively 'repairing' the tyre.
