The Talbot is a wonderful old Coaching Inn full of history and legends. It has some beautiful rooms and conference facilities including one brilliant room on the first floor which has a magnificent fire place. A great Training room! I often take advantage of the great offers they have on meals such as two for one, or two courses for £10.The quality of the food recently has varied depending on who is on duty! Having said that we had two excellent meals last week good quality, freshly made and generous portions. In the Winter the fire in the bar is made daily so it's a great place to warm up and have a coffee or something stronger with friends. There has been a change of manager recently and I think the place needs someone with passion and energy to turn it into a thriving hotel which feels like the heart and soul of Oundle. At the moment it feels as though it's a shell or with something missing.

The Talbot is a lovely old coaching inn situated in the centre of this small town. It has many historic links including having a staircase reputedly from the now demolished Fotheringay Castle nearby with shades of Mary Queen of Scots. Besides rooms within the older part of the hotel the area that once housed the stables and outbuildings now offer accommodation and the rooms are simply but comfortably furnished with en-suite facilities. The dining area is divided into smaller sections giving it a cosy intimate feel and the Sunday Roast enjoyed was a very pleasant meal served on a carvery basis. Bar snacks are also available. Breakfast, including full English cooked breakfast, is served in the dining room. The car park is accessed via a back road so probably best to check in and enquire for directions.
