I'd passed this place many times and eventually decided to give it a try. My friend who was driving had already walked us into and out of two other restaurants, one of which was Indian, because their tables were too close together for comfort and she wanted a private chat. It's small, like many Indian restaurants in the area. The decor is different. Very dark. With what looks like mirrored planks across the ceiling. On one side are some pretty Indian mirrors. On the other side are a well known series of modern pictures of what looks like dancing or skating waiters. The table has some kind of flame burning contraption.I sat on the banquette along the wall. It seemed to have a ridge. I felt I might have been more at ease in a chair. For our main courses we chose the Balti dishes. I had sag aloo. The balti's were not what I expected. (I expected burned woks.) They were copper-bottomed high sided circular dishes on bowls. I chose chicken pasanda because I wanted a dish containing with almonds. At first site my companion thought the meat and fish looked rather sparse. However, by the time you added the rice ( which had a few drops of colouring) and the chopped vegetable in batter, plus my sag alloo, we were both full and had food to take home, without any dessert, wine nor coffee.Faint background music not loud enough to shelter us from the noisy party at another table. Not much choice of wine by the glass, just a couple of house wines, so if you must have a glass of wine try a gastropub (pub serving restaurant style meals). For starters we had peshawri nan. Good hot fluffy bread with pleasing coconut inside. We did not see the dessert menu. The coffee did not tempt us. We were never quite sure whether we had been understood or whether we had understood them but the service was prompt and willing.I was very happy with the food. though I would have liked some kind of tempting drink (lassi or fresh fruit juice or wine by the glass or double espresso coffee). My friend was very happy with the food and decor. On Monday all meals are half price (but not take aways). On Thursday a three course meal is £8.95 per head. Sunday buffet, eat as much as you like, is only £6.95 per head.At the end of the meal we both received a hot wet wipe and a small square of chocolate with the restaurant name on the elegant wrapper.

Thought we'd try this for a change and regretted it. When we arrived they said they'd only seat us if we left by 8.30. The tables seemed smaller than average, and were distinctly crushed together near the door, and the seats were very uncomfortable. The waiters were terrible, reaching across the table and not bothering to serve up sizzling dishes. One also had bad BO. Food was average; my wife left half her chicken tikka as it didn't seem cooked properly. Won't be going back.
