About Me

I have been teaching music both privately and in schools for more than 30 years. I work for local music services providing a mixture of individual, small group and whole class teaching. I also teach piano, keyboard, and recorder at a weekend music school. Previously I taught music in a secondary school.

I attend Asociated Board seminars regularly to keep my teaching knowledge and skills up to date, and recently completed an additional diploma in music teaching.

Lessons

I teach all ages and abilities.

Music lessons take place in my house, usually weekly, and normally last for 30 minutes. However, I'm happy to be flexible to meet your needs.

My approach to the lessons is informal, encouraging and enthusiastic. It is important to me that students feel they are progressing and enjoy their playing experience. Everyone is different and I tailor lessons to each individual student.

I am happy to travel to your home to teach. Lesson rates will be adjusted accordingly.

Exams

If you are interested in taking a music exam, I can help you progress through the eight grades offered by the ABRSM (Associated Board for the Royal Schools of Music) or the Trinity Guildhall. As a stepping stone to Grade 1, young beginners may also like to take the prep test. A separate Theory exam is available to take. I have a 100 per cent pass rate for exams, with many students achieving merits or distinctions. I normally teach theory as part of lessons, but can also offer separate theory lessons should you require them.
