AVOID!

My experience with him is from several years ago, but since I'm thinking of learning to drive again and looking for an instructor he came to mind again and I felt I needed to warn other learners. In a nutshell - Avoid this instructor. Firstly I booked lessons through a fairly large company that he worked for, but when he took me for lessons he would put his own personal name hat on the roof before setting off. He said he was wanting to go independent and wanted to advertise. I didn't complain, but thought it was a bit off. It should have been a red flag for things to come. Secondly, one day, after several lessons he sprung on me "If you damage my car you pay for it by the way". I've never heard of an instructor making the learner liable for damage and I'm pretty sure his verbal say so doesn't hold water anyway, but something about the tone of his voice was quite menacing, like contracts don't matter. Thirdly, on my test day he sprung on me "Oh, I just thought on, you might get tested on reversing round a 90 degree corner at this centre, I better show you how" then gave me a super quick run down of this new manoeuvre to me, just minutes before my test. Can you guess what I failed on? Yep, I got a perfect clean sheet except for clipping the kerb on that manoeuvre - instant fail. I was raging! I have no idea if he's even still teaching and whether he is independent or working for a larger company, but if you happen to end up with him, ask for a different instructor.
