Jones Joiners & Builders

11/June/09 In October I hired Jones Joiners And Builders to do some building work for me consisting of Loft conversion for storage Alcove built into fireplace Brick shed Estimated time was approx 8- 10 weeks The plan was to build the shed first then it could be used as storage while the rest of the work was done. The work finished in early Jan 09 well over estimated time with work still being done on the shed. Because of the length of time the work was a little rushed at the end with nails sticking out, a emergency alarm button walled into a wall and no skirting board fitted. The biggest problems however are linked to the shed which leaks, it originally leaked very badly with big gaps between front and back I finally (despite many appeals to Peter) had to have them fixed by another builder as mildew was forming, Peter kept saying he needed good weather. There is still a leak in the ceiling which has bowed the plaster with water soaking into the insulation. Also the finish to the window surround is poor can see daylight and window ledge is lacking in craftsmanship I've tried to contact Peter many times since January he won't answer his phone and has only answered less than 10% of my emails. The address in Park road he has not lived in for a while and no forwarding address.. An email dated 25th March asked for a list of the jobs that needed doing stating he does want to sort the problems out, I replied immediately. Again same old story of no reply to emails and phone calls till I put a bad review on the internet after sending him a copy. I then received an email 11/04/09 stating again he wanted to sort the problems out and would attend following Thursday. He turned up with no excuses looked at problems and promised to correct them starting the following Tuesday by applying clear mastic to the roof, and attending to the other problems. HE failed to show. After again more fruitless attempts to try and contact him and further threats to publish a review an email arrived 23/04/09 stating he still had not got the mastic, but would complete the job when he had it. Again no show. I finally received an email mid May stating we were getting nowhere and he wished to settle financially, I replied within a couple of days with the costing, surprise, surprise nothing since. I'm very surprised at his attitude I always paid on time sometimes early and thought I had a good working relationship with Pete and he was easy to get on with. Property was damaged because of the damp on trying to claim off his liability insurance I was informed he has to make the claim, if he doesn't there is nothing you can do. The company has never mentioned the work they did for me on their website or anywhere though it was a big job. Peter was always aware of my thoughts on dealing with problems arising after the job had finished in that a good company put them right ASAP Peter assured me they did this, but obviously not. I believe I have given this company enough chances to put this right over the last 6 months and feel it is now time to alert others to the problems I have had in order for them to come to the right decision.
