At Journeys by Design we offer first class, independent and flexible travel itineraries to Africa's finest wildlife destinations. We have developed an unprecedented level of personal attention, and maintain the highest standards when designing and organising personal travel. There is a wind of change blowing across Africa. The frontline guardians of Africa's wildlife are its local neighbours, in whose hands its destiny lies. In recognition of this fact Journeys by Design support 'on-the-ground', practical conservation and development projects that help local communities manage the delicate balance between man and nature.



We have a deep understanding of all the areas in which we operate and support responsible tourism projects that in turn promote local area conservation and development initiatives.

The director, an environmental scientist, has worked in numerous National Parks and Nature Reserves, with studies as diverse as Wild Dogs in Tanzania to Tigers in India. He initiated Ethiopia's first community managed Nature Reserve and built and managed the country's first not-for-profit responsible tourism project, Bishangari, to generate revenue for local area conservation and development initiatives in and around the East Langano Nature Reserve.

At Journeys by Design our depth of knowledge of the countries in which we operate is our strength and your assurance. During our 28 years there we have helped run some of Africa's finest camps and lodges, established projects to manage protected areas for wildlife and neighbouring communities and have traveled comprehensively across this area of the continent.
We have compiled a portfolio of over 60 first class camps and lodges across east and southern Africa. They have all been chosen for some special quality, be it the natural beauty of the landscape, access to certain species of birds or animals or simply the peace and relaxation they offer.
