Don't just travel as a tourist – with Kaya Responsible Travel experience the real world and make a difference. Kaya gives you the opportunity to volunteer abroad, learn a language abroad, gain valuable work experience overseas, or take a gap year.

Based in Manchester, Kaya Responsible Travel provides volunteering opportunities through travel in the real world, not tourism, to clients worldwide. Formed in April 2009, the organisation focuses its efforts on providing bespoke customer service to its volunteers through their database of placement advisors. Each advisor has personal travel experience, has been a volunteer and understands what it means to give back to communities and environments in need.

The project model means that Kaya only commit to projects where there is a genuine need for the physical aid of a volunteer, not just financial assistance, so every volunteer is welcomed and is useful. Kaya helps to shape these initiatives which in the long run does not encourage dependence on aid, but instead establishes foundations upon which the people of that country can build and develop themselves. And they ensure that the members of those communities are open and eager to learn and discover the culture as the volunteers become part of theirs.

Kaya volunteers come from all walks of life. Whether taking a gap year, a career break or just a holiday; traveling alone, in a group, with friends, partners or family, there is a Kaya project to suit everyone. Most of the projects don't require one to have qualifications or specific skills, just a positive attitude and the commitment to learn from the local communities and staff to drive the project to success. For those people who have skills that can benefit the projects, and even if they are looking to develop their professional skills in a developing country, the help is invaluable and Kaya staff will work with everyone to ensure role matches the skill.
