Zero Stars

Frankly if the option to give zero stars existed, that is what I would do. I have never experienced such phenomenally stupid incompetence in all of my life. How this company continues to function is beyond me. The staff are clueless and fail to communicate even the simplest of ideas to each other, and they conduct themselves in an unprofessional and stupid manner, often stooping so low as to lie to tenants faces. A bunch of monkeys could do a better job. There are amoebas with more intelligence. It is a miracle that a company this clueless has lasted as long as they have, and it will be a miracle if they continue to last. I cannot emphasise enough that these brainless, spineless buffoons are not to be trusted. When me and my house mates moved in, the house was disgusting, which directly contrasted their reports that they had thoroughly checked the house. Over the course of our residency, they have solved absolutely nothing, responded to none of our requests and never informed us what is going on. Dear reader, please do me and yourself a favour and avoid these moronic, unprofessional individuals, even if you are homeless.

Speaking from the experience of a landlord myself, I have found The Letting Shop to be run by a bunch of amateurs who clearly disregard the rules and do not care a bit for the welfare of their student tenants. They are operating illegal properties which should be condemned, as well as illegal financial practices which the Oxford authorities need to look into.

Avoid this dreadful company

The Letting Shop Oxford are probably the worst company we have ever had to deal with. The staff are either catastrophically incompetent or tell blatant lies in order to avoid their responsibilities. My daughter was told the property she had contracted to was ready to move into. When she arrived (with all she needed to live for a year, the property was a building site without carpets, doors, running water or toilets. Needless to say, she was unable to move in) They are impossible to contact if you have problems, and go to great lengths not to reveal their names or the name of the company's manager. This will not prevent me from pursuing them for breach of contract. Save yourself a lot of unnecessary stress and hassle and avoid them at all costs. The only reason I have given them one star is you can't award nothing.

The Letting Shop have been no help whatsoever. They have "lost" around £100 of our deposit, which we have no way of claiming back because they wrote the receipt out incorrectly and we did not notice until some time later. They do not take credit cards or cheques and refused a bank transfer for the retainer fee - Alarm bells should have been ringing that they only accept cash. They require a gaurantor for every tennant, regardless of the individual's letting history, as well as an "academic reference" - Without the latter the deposit is far higher. This is causing complications for one of our housemates who has not yet been confirmed a place at the university, but will be living with us anyway.

Letting Shop Review

We have had a very bad experience with the letting shop - they have been very unhelpful with the numerous problems that we have had with our house. There was damp in a downstairs bedroom that was not rectified until 6 months after we moved in, despite the fact that they could have easily done the work before we moved in, as they knew there was a problem. The tenant who had to live in the room with damp received little compensation of rent from the landlord (who is coincidentally also the owner of the letting shop...), and she only received this small amount after making numerous attempts to contact the landord, eventually resorting to a solicitor. This, and many other things, for example poor fitting of late-arriving new double glazing, constantly broken and blocked toilet and drains as well as a huge list of other recurring problems that seem to be perpetually lost in the letting shops cavernous administrative filing system have led us to believe that the letting shop have not provided us with the competent service that we would expect from a business who describe themselves as 'the home of student letting'.
