Dr Syed Y Ahsan
MBBS BSc(Hons) MD MRCP
Dr Syed Ahsan is a Consultant Cardiologist and Heart Rhythm Specialist at the Bart's Heart Centre. Dr Ahsan graduated from Guys Kings and St Thomas' Medical School in 2000 with a First Class Honours degree in his BSc. His postgraduate medical doctorate was awarded from University College London and evaluated strategies to optimise outcomes in patients with cardiac rhythm devices. His research work was awarded the Royal Society of Medicine National Prize in 2009 and was presented nationally and internationally at cardiac conferences. He is a high volume operator who routinely implants all types of cardiac pacing resynchronisation and defibrillator devices, performs ablations for arrhythmia and coronary angiography.

Dr Fakhar Khan
MA MRCP MD CEPS CCDS
Dr Fakhar Khan is a Consultant Cardiologist, with a specialist interest in the management of patients with heart rhythm disorders. He gained his medical degree from the University of Cambridge in 1999. Subsequent to this, he pursued his training in General Medicine and Cardiology in Oxford, London and then Cambridge, at Papworth Hospital and Addenbrooke's Hospital. He then furthered his training in Canada, where Dr Fakhar Z Khan was awarded the Mirium L Burnett Fellowship in Electrophysiology and Devices in Toronto. He regularly performs procedures for the treatment of heart rhythm disorders including the insertion of pacemakers, defibrillators, cardiac resynchronization therapy and all aspects of ablation therapy.

Atrial Fibrillation
Atrial fibrillation (AF) is one of the most common heart rhythm problems in those over 55 years of age and in those patients with high blood pressure or other types of heart problems. Atrial fibrillation is not usually life threatening, but can be uncomfortable and often needs treatment. Ventricular Tachycardia
Ventricular tachycardia (VT) is an abnormally fast heart beat that originates from the bottom chambers of the heart (ventricles). VT in patients with a structurally abnormal heart is a more serious condition and can be a cause of cardiac arrest in some patients. Supraventricular Tachycardia
Supraventricular tachycardia (SVT) is an abnormally fast heart beat that originates from the top chambers of the heart (atria), but unlike atrial fibrillation, the heart rate is often steady and regular.
