He used our layman level knowledge to his advantage - couple of roof tiles of our house fell as the cement was giving way and it was clearly explained that ridge and hip tiles needed to be removed and re-cemented. Colin gave a reasonable quotation but used the word 're-point'. We agreed and he started the work - however, just after a couple of hours of starting the job he finished and came asking for money to our surprise. When questioned he said he never agreed on 're-bedding' the tiles - just put new cement on the sides of the tiles instead which looks aesthetically poor as well! As a layman we weren't aware of the difference between these two words re-bed vs re-point but had clearly explained the work in our own simple words. Anyway, we had to pay up. Story doesn't end there. Soon after the job, small bits of cement started coming down the roof valleys which we thought maybe debris not cleared properly. But big pieces continued to come off every now and then and now one can see from the ground level that the guttering is full of debris. Visually it can be seen that the pointing he did is all damaged(no tiles have fallen so far luckily). But after months of chasing, Colin Mackay won't take calls or reply to texts despite a written guarantee which isn't worth the paper it's written on. Finally he answered once probably accidentally and claimed that he drove past and saw that I had the roof jet washed so the cleaning ppl have damaged it! That is of course not the case but he won't listen!! Just making excuses...he did a poor job and is not prepared to fix it. AVOID him!!
