AVOID!!!!

AVOID AVOID AVOID I came very close to being ripped off for over £2,000+ for work that was NOT needed AT ALL by this company. I had a problem with my gears slipping into neutral whilst driving. Unfortunately as this happened on the motorway, I let AA tow my car to the nearest garage which is one of the worst decisions I have made. Reluctantly I booked the car into Manchetts in Newmarket who looked at the car and after 3 days of waiting around I was informed that BOTH my gearbox and clutch have ‘been worn ‘ and I needed new replacements and quoted £214 just for stripping the gearbox - they didn't even tell me what part of the gearbox was damaged (they didn’t even have the decency to place it back in). Luckily enough I also did my homework on this and I said no and decided to pull the car out of their workshop. To add salt to the wound, I had someone recover my car from their workshop and he too was further insulted when he politely asked them to help him recover the car onto his truck as the car was undrivable - he was told ‘you can do what you want with it’. I have since had my car diagnosed and sorted by a local reputable independent mechanic who has over 40 years of experience in Newmarket for a fraction of the price that was quoted to me by Manchetts. After further tests, he informed me that there was nothing wrong with the gearbox (it was in full working order) and it didn’t even need replacing! The only part that was causing the problem for me was a worn clutch!. The gearbox they had stripped out and disassembled is still on my car and is working fine! AVOID! Untrustworthy, dishonest and bad communication. Beware of these incompetent people you have been warned!! --------------------------------------------------------- UPDATE: I received a call from AMANDA J MANCHETT this afternoon regarding the recent review I have put up on google based on my EXPERIENCE of this company. Before I could even speak I was being shouted at by AMANDA J MANCHETT related to my HONEST review that I have put up. I have a recorded phone call if anyone wants to hear – please contact me. She went on to threaten me with legal action based on a dishonest misdiagnosis I have had from this company. MANCHCETTS had the nerve to VISIT my house and FILM my car whilst it was in my PRIVATE garage. AMANDA J MANCHETT asked me why my car was still in my private garage in which I replied that my gearbox has been put back together and I was waiting for it to be put into the car next week, to which she replied that the gearbox was still at fault which it clearly isn’t as I have had it checked by a reputable mechanic and the only problem with the vehicle was a worn clutch and flywheel, the gearbox is being put together because of their incorrect diagnosis. I have a full diagnosis report from my reputable mechanic who has tested all the components and apparatus and have found absolutely NOTHING WRONG with the gearbox. Manchetts diagnosis is utterly ridiculous and if you don’t believe me, please find reviews from all other reputable review sites on the internet and they will paint a story. Before I decided to pull the car out of the workshop, I did ring someone from Littleport to tow the car as stated and unlike what the reply states they were fully aware that the gearbox was disassembled and left in the boot, they only rang Manchetts to ensure no damage would be done to the paint work if the bonnet would need to be left open with the engine support bar, so Manchetts clearly like to lie about what I told someone else. I arranged for my car to be towed from someone else as the man from Littleport said someone local would be better for me. The guy that I did get to tow it knew everything about the gearbox being disassembled and I clearly told him that the car needed an engine support bar to which he stated that he had one. As for the price of £214.80 I was never told that this is what it would cost to take out and strip the gearbox, all I was told was that once they had stripped the gearbox and were aware of the fault then they would be able to give me a price. I paid £214.80 and MANCHETTS didn’t even have the decency to place my gearbox back! If they did I wouldn’t even need to have an engine support bar. I have TEXTS from my recovery guy to prove this and they can vouch this for me. The person who recovered my car had an AWFUL experience with MANCHETTS, he said these people were very unhelpful. AMANDA J MANCHETT kept saying they are a family run business and they look after families but in this instance we weren’t looked after at all, a car worth £16,000 is left with a disassembled gearbox in the boot scratching the front seats causing more damage to the inside of the car, if this is being looked after then they did an amazing job. MANCHETSS and AMANDA J MANCHETT I look forward to your solicitor’s letter as I have enough proof and evidence of your wrongdoing, so do lots of other people that have come across your company. I have reported this company to Trading Standards who will be taking appropriate action. PLEASE AVOID AVOID AVOID THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS!!!!!
