About

Welcome

Mary Immaculate is an 11-16 comprehensive school serving the western region of Cardiff. We are a forward thinking school with the highest ambitions for each child in our care. We are a faith school which welcomes Catholic families and children from all religious and non-religious backgrounds. We are one of the most improved schools in the country and we aspire for excellence in everything we do.

About Us

Our aim is quite simple. We want our children to develop into ‘well-rounded individuals' who leave us ready to be successful in the next stage of their lives. We are a school which seeks to develop the ‘whole person'. This is not code for ‘non-academic'. In fact our school is the fastest improving school in Cardiff and one of the most improved in Wales! But a school which focuses purely on passing exams is ‘selling its children short!' We aim to ensure every child in our care achieves their full potential academically but also develops skills to be successful in our ever-changing world and understand a sense of morality guided by the gospel values of respect, care, compassion and love. These aims are delivered through a strong pastoral system, a commitment to providing high quality teaching and learning and an extensive range of sporting, cultural, physical and extra-curricular activities.

Visitors to the school are impressed by the students, who are friendly, who value the school and want to be successful learners. The staff are dedicated and committed to providing the children with a first-class education. We only recruit the finest teachers who will inspire, motivate and challenge our students to be the ‘best they can be'.

Children have one chance in education. They deserve the best and our role at school is to ensure we provide them with this. We have the highest expectations of and for our students and we shall leave no stone unturned to achieve our goal. We will always focus on improving the quality of the education our young people experience and place great importance in working together in partnership with students, staff and parents.

Educating children is a great responsibility and an immense privilege. If you are a parent of a student already at the school, thank you for entrusting us with that job. We won't let you down! If you are considering sending your child to Mary Immaculate or would like to find out more do get in touch. We are open to visitors every day.

Mission and Purpose

As a faith school Mary Immaculate welcomes children of all faiths and none. Our philosophy to education is clearly explained by our mission and purpose as a school. Our Mission is to be a Catholic School which promotes positive relationships founded on the values of respect, care, compassion and love. We firmly believe that each individual can discover, develop and achieve their full potential to help them take their place in our ever-changing world.

In achieving these aims all students at Mary Immaculate can expect to:

Achieve the best results they could possibly hope for. As a school we serve a wide range of students from a wide range of backgrounds. We believe that every child deserves the right to an excellent education. Students who attend Mary Immaculate can expect to be challenged and pushed to achieve their full potential in public examinations.

Develop skills to prepare them for the world of work. The idea of a 'job for life' belongs to a bygone era so students need to be prepared fully to ensure they develop employable skills. Students need to be able to develop confidence to work with others, be functionally literate and understand number, use IT effectively and be able to communicate with others.

Know and understand a sense of morality grounded in gospel values. We promote the Christian values of respect, care, compassion and love. We may refer to these as gospel values but to understand the difference between right and wrong, learning to say 'sorry' and 'I forgive you' is as important for any member of society regardless of a religious background.
