About Us

Matthews Haulage Ltd is a family owned general haulage company established in 1975 and based in Hertford since 1977. We have been in our own premises since 1984 which we have expanded twice since to flourish into the 1.2 acre site we now enjoy. Set up by Trevor and Nick Matthews who both drove 35cwt Bedford vans to start with, Matthews Haulage Ltd has meticulously grown into the ‘Rolls Royce' company it is today. We pride ourselves on going the extra mile (no pun) to ensure the satisfaction of all our customers large or small. We provide a first class service at a competitive price using a modern, smart fleet with smart, conscientious drivers. We have a highly motivated management team who will help you with all your needs you hardly have to think for yourself!

Our Services

We specialise in deliveries from 1 pallet to full loads nationwide on a next day* or economy basis. We also cover the Republic of Ireland. Unpalletised consignments are also catered for.

Next day is what it says on the tin but we can add timed, AM and PM services to this with a small surcharge. If your consignment is price sensitive why not send it economy and it will be delivered within 3 working days or on a specific day in the future (timed, AM and PM services also available). You can also specify a tail lift delivery (or collection) for any service at no extra cost.

We have the ability to collect goods from anywhere in the country to go anywhere in the country.

With the help of our pallet network Pall-Ex (UK) Ltd and other partners we are able to offer a European service (see Pall-Ex page).

We can also provide you with a dedicated vehicle and driver for a day or more.

If you wish to have a dedicated vehicle for a long period we are happy to enter into a contractual agreement in which case you may like the vehicle in your livery. This would free up vital capital for you, and reduce administration costs. A provision would be made for a replacement vehicle to cover for servicing and MOT. If required, KPI reports can be produced by our dedicated management team.

Subject to conditions, we can also have your livery on our vehicle(s) without a contract so you can project your company all over the country.

If your customer requires a booking for their delivery we are happy to make this for you just give us the details and it will be done.

We have secure ambient warehousing and storage facilities available and are able to take on long or short term agreements. Our whole site is covered by monitored CCTV for security which is accessible by the management team from home.

Consignments can be booked by telephone, fax, email or by our online system where you can also view, print and email your proof of deliveries (see online services).

Sold or bought something large on EBay? If so, we can deliver or collect it for you and you can pay by credit card over the telephone.

*Next day service available all across the UK except highlands and islands.

Trade Bodies/Associations

We are members of the Pall-Ex (UK) Ltd pallet network who are regarded as the No1 pallet network moving up to 15,000 pallets per night for its 100 (approx) members. Pall-Ex was started in 1996 by Dragons Den star Hilary Devey.
