Services

Consultations

These are either during open Surgery or by appointment We try to arrange pre and post operation checks out of the open Surgery times if possible. Also we like to arrange a specific time when the Surgery is quiet if it is time to say 'goodbye' to a much-loved pet.

Operations

We like to admit patients before morning consultations. This gives us time to perform the necessary health checks + / - blood screens and get them settled before we are busy with those consultations. We encourage owners to come through into the hospitalisation area to help settle their pets in. Operations are usually performed late morning through to early afternoon in our adjacent theatre. We ask owners to telephone between 2 - 3 pm to arrange when their pet will be discharged. This is generally between 4 - 5 pm.

Hospitalisation

If it is necessary to hospitalise a sick pet for several days we encourage the owners to visit daily and spend as much time as possible with their pet. This is generally in the afternoon and/or early evening.

Blood Tests

We perform 'in house' pre-anaesthetic blood profiles and basic general health profiles. We can use our equipment to monitor your pet's response to treatment for various conditions including most commonly : blood sugar levels in pets suffering from Diabetes Mellitus and thyroid levels in hyperthyroid cats or hypothyroid dogs.

Diets

We stock a range of life stage diets for both cats and dogs. We also supply Waltham and Hills prescription diets for pets requiring specific feeds tailor made to treat their specific problems.

Training

We are an approved Training Practice(TP). This means that we have been approved by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons to train student nurses to become qualified Veterinary Nurses. The training involves an intensive 2year period consisting of practical training, whilst working, and day release for College.

Value

I have been a client at this practice for over 15 years and will continue to be so. It is lovely to see the same vet (except when on holiday) this gives a much more personal feel to the whole experience. In my experience unnecessary tests/procedures are not pushed as the interests of the pet always comes first. I have also found the prices to be very reasonable and were in fact cheaper when I first moved to this vets from my previous vets. I would recommend this vets to anyone.

Testimonials

From Christina Easom - At around midnight on June 20th 2013 my cat Penny started to go into labour. The first kitten came along in no time at all, a little black girl (Lola). Penny continued in labour and around an hour later along came kitten number 2 another black girl. Both kittens fed from their mum whilst she had a rest. At around 5am Penny began to labour again, eventually kitten number 3 began to arrive feet first. Penny pushed but the kitten's front end would not come out. Penny was in trouble. She became more and more exhausted and the kitten would not move, it was hanging lifeless. I decided it was time to phone the vets. The vet advised me to take her there immediately so Penny and the 2 kittens were taken straight away. On arrival at the vets Penny was immediately examined and it was determined that the kitten was too big to pass through Penny's pelvis and surgery was essential. Penny was taken straight in for surgery and the two kittens taken home to be kept warm and bottle fed (which the vet showed me how are to do). By this time I was pretty exhausted myself and very anxious about the operation and Penny's health, although I knew she was in good hands. A while later I received a phone call from the vet, the kitten was dead and had been removed, Penny was extremely tired, bruised and had two more kittens delivered by c section. I went to collect Penny and kittens number 3 and 4 from the vets and was advised to feed the kittens formula milk every 2 hours for the next few days to help Penny recover. Once home all 4 kittens and Penny were put in a box with a heat mat to keep them warm. The vet phoned me that night to see how they were all doing and asked me to keep her informed. The following day little black kitten number 2 died unfortunately. We kept feeding the kittens for a few days until Penny went back for a post op check, her temperature was running high and she showed signs of infection so a course of antibiotics was necessary. Penny got stronger and stronger over the next few days and she began feeding the kittens alone. After a traumatic week all 4 were doing well. I decided the best thing to do is have Penny spayed at weaning and I had to keep one of the kittens! (Lola) I am extremely grateful for the care and treatment Penny received at Meadowbank vets and the way I was kept informed and reassured about the procedures. Sent from my Hudl From Micheal Asher: We moved to the area and had been visiting another vets where we had been living where our Golden Retriever, Dooey, had been progressively harder to control when taking him to the vets as he was so scared about what was being done to him. When we moved we decided to try and find a vet who would take the time to help us with him, which would make it easier for us to take him to the vet without worrying, also so we no longer worried the vets themselves but more importantly so the dog was happier visiting the vets. After calling Meadowbank and speaking to their staff it was clear that they wanted to help, that they had the time to help but most importantly care enough about our dog to make sure we were getting the right treatment and advice. We have been given advice every step of the way, which although has been honest and hard to listen to at times, has been the right advice for the dog and has only been said with the dogs best interests at heart. Whenever we have had any questions they have been keen to try and give us the best advice possible and we have now made great strides with a dog who is controllable at the vets, which although is not perfect yet, with Meadowbank's advice will only improve in future. I know I have said it many times before but thank you all so much and we couldn't be happier with the service and expertise your have shown us. Kind regards Dooey, Michael and Charlotte
