About

Medi-Lab

A Service for every body:
~
Offering direct access to an ethical pathology service is still a relatively new idea in the UK, yet it sits nicely with the Governments idea of providing personalised health advice and support within easy reach and to encourage everyone to take some responsibility for their own health.
~
Our service is highly confidential, non-judgemental and designed to make your decision to undertake a diagnostic test or health check an easy one.
~
Regular health checks coupled with professional lifestyle advice for healthy living can give you peace of mind and may help prevent the development of serious illness. Remember, your body has to last you a lifetime!

Ordering tests on-line.

Medi-Lab provides an accredited pathology service covering the major medical laboratory disciplines.

Our e-commerce web site www.medi-lab.net has been designed to enable members of the general public to take a degree of control over their health and to order certain laboratory tests on-line.

This service is not meant to replace or substitute any of your existing health services and Medi-Lab recommends that you always discuss any health concerns firstly with your own doctor.

Most of the tests offered on this web site are available via the NHS (free at the point of service) when requested by your doctor.

If you decide to order tests from this site, we will always encourage you to seek advice on the interpretation of the results from your own doctor.

So why would you order tests from this web site?

Convenience, freedom of choice and confidentiality are probably the main reasons.

How does it work?

How does it work?
~
Once you decide on the test(s) or services you require, you simply initiate the ordering process by clicking the 'order' button and entering the appropriate information when requested.
~
Medi-Lab will then receive your order and will contact you by telephone (or email if preferred) to explain the next steps.
~
If the test(s) or services ordered require a blood sample collection, Medi-Lab will arrange for you to visit a local clinic (the cost of which is included in the price) alternatively, you may prefer to have a nurse visit your home or office at a mutually agreeable date and time (this service will incur an additional fee and can be selected from a drop down menu during the ordering process).
~
Some samples can be self collected, for example urine samples, stool samples, sputum samples, some swabs or tests requiring only a tiny capillary blood sample (e.g. food intolerance tests) and in these cases you will be sent the appropriate self-collection and postal kits.
~
Once collected, the samples are dispatched to Medi-Lab, usually via post, in a special package provided. The cost of first class post is included in the price of the test(s) - however, you may select Royal Mail Special Delivery at an additional cost from a drop down menu, when placing your order.
~
Upon receipt, your sample will be efficiently analysed by Medi-Lab following strict accredited protocols. Your results will then be reported and reviewed by a Chartered (Biomedical) Scientist, a Consultant Biochemist or a Consultant Pathologist. Medi-Lab is additionally supported by its sister medical organisation Acumen Medical Services (www.acumenmedical.co.uk).

In addition to the actual test results, your report will include information such as how your results compare with the expected ' Normal' reference ranges for people of your age and sex.

Where appropriate a Medical Practitioner will add comments and advice (however, his/her opinions and guidance will not be intended to substitute those of your own doctor).

Uncomplicated reports that are easy to understand or do not require interpretation, will be posted to you (or emailed if you prefer).

However, where the report is considered to be complicated to understand or where further testing or treatment is advised, you will initially receive a phone call from an experienced Nurse Practitioner or Medical Doctor and he/she will discuss the relevance of the results and offer advice.

Note: This advice may be superseded by your own doctor when he/she views the report. Please remember that your own doctor will always be in a better position to advise you as he/she will have a greater knowledge of your current and past clinical and family history.

We hope that you will find this service of benefit - please do not hesitate to contact us for further information or clarification on this service.
