Self-defence and sports-oriented martial art, Tomiki Aikido teaches the student how to avoid the aggressive actions of an attacker and focuses not on punching or kicking opponents, but rather on using their own energy against them; to gain control of them or to throw them away from you.
Students learn how to pivot, block and apply Aikido techniques to defend against grabs, chokes, punches and kicking.
Balance, coordination, flexibility and physical fitness are emphasised.
British Aikido Association - www.aikido-baa.org.uk
Hampshire Aikido represents a number of Aikido clubs in the Hampshire area - www.hampshireaikido.co.uk
Aikido is well suited to all ages, and students can start at any time after the age of 13. There are no specific beginner classes, so you can just pitch up whenever you want, but you will receive specialist attention to start with so that you can gradually join the main class. One of the principles of the club is to provide an all-round, balanced training in Aikido, so students practice skills from all the grades.
