About

Welcome

MOORLANDS is a family run business offering a full range of services for older people in Darlington and the surrounding area.
Moorlands was established in 1989, the original residential home was in Moorlands Road in Cockerton Village (hence the name), before we moved to Stanhope Road North in June 2000. As well as a nineteen bed care home we provide day care services, a full range of domiciliary services, an old fashioned meals on wheels service and a laundry service.

About Us

The business is run by Michelle and David Smith with youngest son Greg now also helping out. Our philosophy has always been to provide a professional, competent service with the emphasis on caring family values. Every one of our service users is valued by us as an individual with their own strengths and weaknesses which are considered when deciding exactly what help and support we can offer.
Our staff are our greatest asset and are all highly valued by us. We have held Investors In People since 2001 and are accredited users of Jobcentre Plus' two ticks disability symbol. All our staff are chosen for their ability and their caring attitude, they are CRB checked and undergo ongoing training and supervision throughout their employment.
Moorlands is registered with, and inspected by, the Commission for Social Care Inspection and copies of our inspection reports can be accessed via their website www.csci.org.uk. We are also inspected by Darlington Social Services and have contracts with them and Newcastle Social Services.

Residential Care

Moorlands Care Home is a residential home for older people, of both sexes, offering all aspects of personal and social care.
As a small home, having only 19 residents, the atmosphere is homely and quiet. There are two lounges, both overlooking the park, a large dining room, also used for entertainment etc. and with patio doors to the garden. We have hairdressing/treatment room, two bathrooms with full hoist facilities, a separate shower room with an adapted, level entry shower, six toilets including adapted ones and lift access to all but two rooms.
The bedrooms, 17 single and 1 shared, vary in size and character with 9 rooms having en-suite toilets. All rooms are over 10sqm with the smallest being 10.3 and the largest being 18.3, the shared room is over 20sqm. Outside there is a private, quiet and relaxing garden where you can sit and chat with friends, feed the pet rabbit and guinea pig or lend a hand with the vegetable plot and in the greenhouse.

Domiciliary Services

The Domiciliary Home Care Service is available to people who live at home but need more help than they can get from their own family and friends.
Our domiciliary service staff are all chosen for their sensible and caring nature and have many years of varied experience between them. All undergo enhanced CRB checks before commencing and then a comprehensive training programme which is regularly updated throughout their employment. They follow their own personal development plan and are supported and supervised to help achieve their goals.

Meals On Wheels

Moorlands provides an old fashioned meals on wheels service, with freshly cooked hot food served on crockery plates, delivered to your table ready to eat and enjoy.
Our catering staff come from varied backgrounds and are all sympathetic to the special dietary needs for older people. Menus are set by our head chef and can be tailored to special requirements including, amongst others, vegetarians and those with diabetes. All fresh ingredients are purchased from reputable local suppliers.
Our drivers are chosen for their pleasant caring attitude to deliver not only good food but also a friendly smile to brighten up your day.
Please feel free to give us a ring to discuss your requirements and if you would like to try our service we will be happy to arrange for a complimentary meal to be sent out.

Employment Opportunities

Moorlands acknowledges that the single most important part of our organisation is our staff and that is why we continually strive to maintain a first class workforce who are proud to work for Moorlands and of whom Moorlands is proud.
To help achieve this, we look at all ways to support and develop our employees. Moorlands achieved Investor in People status in February 2003 showing we value all our staff, we are authorised users of Jobcentre Plus' two ticks, positive about disabled people symbol, showing we concentrate on staff members abilities and not disabilities and we have committed to the government's Skills Pledge, showing we value training and personal development for everyone.
As we offer a full care service we employ people with different skills and attributes in a range of posts including care assistants, co-ordinators, activities staff, housekeeping staff, catering staff and meals delivery drivers. All highly valued, important individuals working as part of a close-knit team.
If you like the sound of being a valued member of a caring, professional team and think that you could uphold our aims and objectives, please enquire to see if we have any vacancies at the moment.
