What a find. Near Windermere in the picture postcard village of Troutbeck, flanked by rolling hills and outstanding views, stands The Mortal Man."O mortal man that lives by breadwhat is it makes they nose so red?Thou silly fool, that look'st so pale,'Tis drinking Sally Birketts ale."We had a four poster room with panoramic views. Just lovely. The bar with roaring fires is open all day (lucky, since we arrived back from a glorious morning walk just as the heavens opened) with decent bar food. The restaurant serves really good food from a rather formal room, also with fabulous views. I can't remember what we ate (presumably a bad thing then, if I can't recall)as this was a couple of months ago. A spectacular find. Go.
