Restaurant - Tunisian in London

If you love West African food and aren't bothered by slightly weird restaurants, this is the place, but...We went on a Saturday night and it was empty, which is never good. On ordering drinks we were told they didn't have any of the West African lagers on offer, only Nigerian Guinness and Stella. In cans. So it goes. Then, when we came to order food, we discovered all the starters were off with one exception, as they'd "been really busy earlier." As we were the only customers, and there's a supermarket on the corner, this is a bit rich, but we were mollified that the available starter was fried plantain, and it was delicious - sweet and just the right mixture of crispy and soft. Mmm.For main courses, we ordered variations on classic Ghanaian jollof rice, with various meats, fish and sauces (including a veggie option). All were delicious and quite spicy, although they did arrive at irregular intervals, meaning the first person served (of 3) was nearly finished by the time the last person was served.Despite all this, and the strange mixture of African music and 50 Cent played throughout, we had a really good meal, that tasted delicious and felt authentic and home-cooked, the staff were really friendly throughout, and I would recommend Motherland - I just wish they'd put a little more effort in...
