Action for Children supports and speaks out for the UK's most vulnerable and neglected children and young people, for as long as it takes to make a difference in their lives. We're a children's charity who work with over 50,000 children and young people of all ages and run 480 projects across the UK.

Adoption, fostering and children in care

Some children and young people cannot grow up with their birth families for a variety of reasons. People like you open your homes and create a new family where these children can grow in a loving, secure home.

Many children needing adoption have been abused, either physically or sexually, while others have been neglected and not given love and stimulation. As a result, many children are angry or confused about what is happening to them.

They need a great deal of love and attention to help them adjust to stable family life and grow into happy, confident adults. We will prepare you with the skills to adopt children who have been abused or neglected and support you throughout the process.

Both during and after National Adoption Week, Action for Children is urging people to consider adopting the UK's most vulnerable children in need of homes.

At a time when only 4% of children adopted last year were from Black and Asian backgrounds, we are particularly appealing for prospective adopters from ethnic minority backgrounds to come forward. We run a service which specialises in finding BME adopters.

We believe that children need families who can help them grow up feeling good about themselves, with knowledge of their own culture, language and religion.

Last year, across our services, 50% of adoptions arranged by Action for Children were of children from Black and minority ethnic (BME) backgrounds, a direct result of recruiting adopters who reflect the complex needs of children and young people in need of families.
