AWESOME WORK
The house was built in the mid 1800's and is of solid wall construction, no damp proof course, extensions are cavity wall. The flagged driveway to the side of the property was uneven and holding water in parts and the whole needed re-pointing. We had seen Neil's work, so contacted him. When he arrived he asked if the house was damp and/or smelled musty. We explained that we had lived here for 40 years and up to the last 10/12 years there had been no problem, since then we had been bothered with damp, musty smells and mould. Several tradesmen had told us it was condensation, old property, no air circulation, etc, we had even considered the 'Holland' damp proofing method. Neil explained that although there was a gully drain along the side of the house the whole of the outside ground level was too high and not allowing the house to breathe, it was standing in water! We then realised that the previous flagging contractor had raised the ground level instead of digging out, that was 10/12 years ago. The solution proposed was drastic, lift and clean the flags, dig down the whole area, front side and rear to a depth of 18", backfill with stone, lay suitable surface drains and re-flag to achieve a level 8/9" below existing. This was civil engineering, not merely hard landscaping. The work started at the beginning of November 2014 and lasted 8 weeks, with some of the most atrocious weather of the winter. The result - the house is already drier and warmer, the damp and mould are receding and the musty smell has gone, and it is still drying; this is to say nothing of the professional workmanship and excellent finish. Paving driveway, front & rear gardems
First class workmanship and work was completed in a timely manner. My drive, front garden and rear garden were paved and edged with block paving which set them off. Visitors to my home remark how good it looks. Both workmen were very polite. The site was left in a clean and tidy condition, as it was before work commenced.
