Restaurant - Indian in Huddersfield

This is my favourite Huddersfield Indian restaurant, but it is far from perfect which probably speaks volumes about the local competition.Nawaab's is a fairly small restaurant that is often very busy – so on a number of occasions I've had to spend the odd half hour in the bar area (which is also very small) before a table becomes free. The bar is a disappointing affair which only offers 2 draught options – Carlsberg or Boddingtons. Other beers are available in bottled format but to me it's just not the same! The food though makes up for inadequacies in the drink department. The optional poppadoms are a pretty drab affair but are a welcome start to the meal. The starters are quite small and not particularly fresh-looking when they are served. However, they are pretty tasty which more than makes up for appearances. The main dishes are wide-ranging and well prepared. The curry sauces (in particular) are packed with great flavours. I can highly recommend the Murgh Handi – chicken curry which is slow-cooked with ginger and spices to produce a great flavour. If you are peckish and want to eat before 7pm – go for the “early bird†option, which allows you to buy one curry and get one free (to a maximum of £5.95 off the bill).Make sure you ask the waiter about it – as they have a habit of “forgetting†about the offer when it comes to getting your bill. The desserts are standard pre-packed frozen affairs, which just about do the job. The main attraction of Nawaab's though is the tastiness of the curries, which more than make up for its other shortcomings.
