Disgustingly disappointed

Literally horrendous. I'll list facts: Staff rude, couldn't really understand me had to wait to use the gents Food was cold, and hardly any choice. What food there was was tasteless - curry sauce was minging. Mushroom Omelette (didn't know it was a Chinese dish) had clearly been left out all day (I went out in evening) as it was crusty on top. No more rice dishes were out out despite none being left. In respose to Laya Abbott, i got charged 50p per glass of tap water. This DESPICABLE service cost my girlfriend and I £16. She has since gone to Red Hot Buffet with her friend and spent £17, before getting STUDENT DISCOUNT OF 15%. Literally think the worst restuarant I've ever been to. DO NOT GO. They should be shut down.

An amazing restaurant, I go there all the time with my friends. The food is delicious and good value. They offer free tap water aswell. The staff are a bit mean when it comes to waste charges and entering charges and the drinks are expensive but they are the only faults.

No1 for poor service

Seven of us for a birthday night out headed to the No1 Oriental Buffet in Leeds - we ended up going to the (excellent) Crown Buffet instead due to the poor service at No.1 We sat down after arrival at the No.1 and ordered drinks two bottles of wine (two of the ladies went to the loo and reported excrement on the toilet seat...) . First indications of trouble ahead were when we asked for tap water to go with this and were refused... now I'm not sure if it's an urban myth that licenced premises have to give tap water, but in any case it makes business sense not to refuse , esp. when your customers have just ordered a couple of bottles of wine... 2nd indication came shortly afterwards when one of our party asked how the buffet worked, at which point the manager rushed up to inform us that we must pay now, in advance, and for the wine too in case we ran off...bear in mind we hadn't had anything yet! At which point... we ran off... Avoid at all costs unless desperate for a truly Fawlty Towers experience!

Unpleasant but cheap

No.1 Oriental Buffet is the cheapest chinese buffet in the centre of leeds. It actually used to be quite a nice place to eat, but a dodgy refit has left it looking a bit shabby and unloved. The food isn't actually that bad, but dishes frequently run out or have gone all stale under the heat lamps. What really lets it down is the layout. All the dining tables are between the exit and the food, so it's constantly crowded and nothing feels very safe. There's no way my girlfriend would ever think about leaving her bag at the table when she went for food, and I've even thought twice about leaving my jacket. The clientele are buffet warriors and every plate seems to be topped off with the requisite crown of chips. Avoid.

No.1 is good for hungry students on a tight budget, and that's about it. They give a 10% student discount and as an all you can eat buffet you can arrive starving and leave full, albeit full of bland, nearly warm food. There is a wide selection of food but it's almost always cold and with a distinct layer of skin from the heat lamps. If you're desperate and poor then this place is perfect, but if you were looking for an enjoyable evening, avoid this place like the plague. The staff can sometimes make you feel uncomfortable through their rudeness and lack of care for the customer. But it's the other customers that make you feel the most unsafe as they're usually extremely rough.Once again the food is extremely cheap, alcohol is expensive though and they won't serve tap water. Be wary of the food, it wouldn't surprise me if you could catch E Coli.

I'm giving this place 4 stars because its go a lot going for it. The place had a lively feel and offers excellent value for money. I feel it offers they best all you can eat buffet in Leeds with a huge selection of dishes you'll find yourself getting up and going back again and again to try everything. They have starters like salads soups prawn crackers. Then they do crispy duck pancakes which are fab and a massive selection of main dishes with fish, meat and veggie options and a selection of sweets too including icecreams. I don't think anywhere offer better value for money. Although two things let it down firstly they don't serve tap water and secondly my 18month old was charged full childs price even though all he did was pick at a few chips. I think they should perhaps a separate charge for younger kids.

The food is rubbish, so dont expect too much. But, its cheaper than anyother reseraunt in town. If you are an eater like me then this place is perfect. All-you-can-eat!! This was a hot spot of mine when I was in college. Great value for money. As with most Chinese resteraunts, they dont have much of a dessert menu. You will find the usual fruit, fritters and sometimes iced cream. If you order from the menu, then you will recieve a nicer selection of food. But, this does meen that you may need to pay alot more than expected. There are no spectacular drink selections, and the waitersv are a bit grumpy.
