Came here on Monday night to exploit my tastelondon card with the 2 for 1 offer. Out of the Blue is an independent restaurant and from looking at reviews it is quite popular with the locals. The restaurant had a homely feel with low lighting and mismatched wooden furniture. Not sure i'd be able to sit in my wicker chair for more than a couple of hours though and some of the tables were really close together - so i was impressed that the waitresses could get round them. The menu was divided into two parts - one section had heavier meals, your standard starters, mains, and puddings. On the other side were smaller tapas like plates, 5 of which we decided to go for. We ordered the battered halloumi cheese, the rocket and grapefruit salad, the lamb kebabs, the nachos and the chicken burritos. All were delicious and i had nothing to fault them for. I particulary liked the rocket and grapefruit sald with parmesan - great combination of flavours. However, after having the 5 dishes we were still hungry and we ordered a plate of fries. I liked the way the dishes had their own touches - for example the fries had parsley and garlic on them. You could tell that care had gone into making them. Not sure if I would come back though as I did think that £5.50 per dish was a little pricey and we weren't full after 5 dishes.

A hazy memory of a great evening with excellent service

I took a large group of friends to Out Of The Blue for my 23rd Birthday and from what I can remember it was great.I had actually tried to book a table at Lost Society but they couldn't accommodate our party. Following a top recommendation from a colleague I went for Out Of The Blue, and it didn't disappoint. In short the restaurant offers food and alcohol from around the world in a relaxed setting with excellent service.I'm not the most decisive person when it comes to ordering food at a restaurant and always find myself narrowing down a number of dishes that take my fancy then choosing randomly when under pressure from a waiter.Out Of The Blue is perfect for indecisive people like me as they serve what they call international deli boards. As the name suggests you can chose dishes from around the world which come in a small portion, ideal for sharing. Each dish costs £5 but the more you get the cheaper it becomes. I shared 8 dishes (£36) with my brother (which was probably 2 too many) but at least we got to try everything!Favourites from the deli board selection were the fantastic lamb koftas, the chilli squid and the mini fish and chips. From memory, the mains on the menu ranged from £10 to £15 and included sea bass, gnocchi and kangaroo! As the evening progressed, my vision narrowed as we explored the great wine list. We started with an english dry white wine called the three choirs before moving onto some new world wines. They also offered beer from all the continents. Although I didn't try it, the cheese board looked very good and, as trustedbot wrote, is supplied by local fromagerie Hamish Johnston. If you're into your cocktails it might not be the best option as the list was a little short but that doesn't matter as the wine and beer list were great. From my first call to make the booking the staff were very accommodating and friendly. On the night, we arrived late and tried to apologise. They had none of it and just said "it happens" which was nice. Throughout the meal our waitress took time to explain the menu before we ordered and as the food arrived. She was also very patient with the large number of us.Highly recommended!
