Are you responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of your premises?

If so, you also have a duty to 'Manage' any Asbestos Containing Materials that have been identified on or in your premises.

Following a Management Asbestos Survey you must carry out a risk assessment to help develop a strategy for dealing with any Asbestos Containing Materials.

You must ensure that any residual Asbestos Containing Materials are maintained in such a way as to protect your staff, members of the public and any contractors that come to your site(s) from the ill-health effects of being exposed to Asbestos fibres.

Prior to any refurbishment work a more intrusive Refurbishment/Demolition Survey is required and the opportunity should be taken to remove any Asbestos that may be disturbed due to that refurbishment work.

An Asbestos Management Plan should be drawn up that demonstrates in detail how you are going to 'Manage' any Asbestos Containing Materials.

You must monitor the condition of any Asbestos Containing Materials on a regular basis (6-12 months), update your records when there is any change, and review/audit your Managment Plan and Procedures annually to ensure they remain relevant and up to date.
