Tucked away down Market Lane, Paradiso is a hidden treasure. Located in an old print works, this modern café bar is a firm favourite with everyone who has had the luck of discovering it. With bare brick walls and old steel columns, the design makes the most of its industrial past in a stylish, contemporary haven.
The food is Mediterranean, specialising in Italian and Moroccan cuisine. There are lots of Moroccan lamb dishes and tasty Italian antipasto. There is a wide selection of pizza and pasta dishes (the tomato sauce is to die for) as well as tasty steaks, Moroccan casseroles and plenty of vegetarian options. A great range of cocktails, bottled beers and a substantial wine list complement the food on offer nicely.
Paradiso is very stylish but still manages to be welcoming and relaxed. The staff are always friendly and welcoming in this fashionable restaurant that never threatens to be pretentious.
The restaurant is split over three floors, including separate dining rooms for private functions, also there is also the option of dining al fresco on the Paradiso's beautiful sun terrace when the Newcastle weather allows.
Just off Pilgrim Street, down Market Lane (between Bierrex & the Market Lane Pub).
We had an amazing anniversary meal at Paradiso. The food was superb. My husband's steak was melt in the mouth and my fish was cooked to perfection. Topped off with an amazing baileys creme brulee. The staff really looked after us, even though it was busy. We will definitely be back.

I've eatten at Paradiso several times, and always enjoyed my meal. I've taken girlfriends there, eaten with people from work, my parents, and with friends. I've had meals ranging from a single course grabbed at the beginning of a night out, to five courses with wine, cocktails, port and deserts. Its a little difficult to find the first time you go, but the best way to find it is to head to Popolo (the bar), go down the alley next to it, and the door to Paradiso is just to the left of the back door of Popolo. You go up a narrow staircase and come out into the dimly lit first floor. I love their leather lines booth chairs by the window, perfect for playing footsie under the tables. The menu changes infrequently, and features a good selection of meal and fish dishes, drawing it's influences mainly from the Med and Italy, but making nice use of local ingredients. I love their garlicky king prawns, and the risottos are wonderful too. The Moroccan Lamb Tangine was butter soft and perfectly spiced last time I had it. The deserts are not brilliant, so plan to skip them and have a starter instead. The wine list is not extensive, but I've had a few good bottles from it. The sparkling pink champagne was really good fun with seafood, and the coffee to follow was one of the better ones I've had in a while. If you're looking for somewhere thats a bit nicer than your average Italian, and don't mind the extra fiver a head, Paradiso is hard to beat. There's been a management change at the beginning of the year apparently, but I didn't notice any drop in standards.
