A few thoughts on fat loss

Fat loss! Here are just a few thoughts on the number one goal of most gym goers. 1) At the top of the list, and it should be obvious, its NUTRITION: And its at the top of the list for a good reason, there is no getting out of it your diet pretty much determines how effective your training is! So if you want to see those abs or just lose some more body fat you best sort your nutrition out...now that doesn't necessarily mean go on a diet just eat properly! To lose fat you need to create a caloric deficit of some sort, but still consume enough protein and essential fats to help maintain lean body tissue.2) Make sense of metabolism: The faster you're Resting metabolic Rate (RMR) the more calories you will burn daily at rest, that's where most calories are burned! More so than the times we are outside our RMR. Now our RMR is pretty much determined by how much muscle we carry (the more muscle we have the more energy our body requires and burns). So with that in mind any activity that promotes lean body mass and burns calories has to be of high priority when it comes to fat loss, so that's why the use of resistance especially high intensity is the number one factor in exercise in the change of body composition.3) Hiit or high intensity interval training: basically any metabolic boosting activities that burn calories but also keep our metabolic rate elevated even after your training, basically the harder the session the bigger the demand on the body with more oxygen being required post workout (EPOC) meaning it takes longer for the body more specifically the metabolism to return back to its normal state. Only thing is intervals are hard!! But on the up side very time efficient meaning you don't need to spend hours plodding along (most likely on a cross trainer)to gain little or no progress.4) Steady state cardiovascular training: ok in most gyms this is the most commonly used tool for people seeking weight loss or fat loss(just look how busy the cross trainers get) but its also the least effective in terms of fat loss, it does however have its place in a well planned program for its extra activity or even just some reading time on the lazy bike (sorry recumbent bike). so steady state cardio is a good addition to a well planned program, another 300-500 cals burned here or there may help just don't make it the staple of your training or your cutting yourself short by a long way. So the take home points are Eat well...eat well, shall I say it again eat well! Be sure to lift some weight of some description to add or maintain lean body tissue and raise that metabolism and try adding in some high intensity intervals of some type like getting outside and sprinting or try a new sport, then with the spare time you saved with your new efficient program you can cook yourself a quality steak and veg and get to sleep ready to attack a new day.Look after yourselves...
