A little bit of what you fancy

We had a meal here for 22 people, at £25 per head for the Christmas meal. First impressions were not excellent - they wanted all of us to be there before being seated - however the foyer/bar was really far too small for this. The table was nicely decorated but no drink orders were taken at the table without having to ask - it would have been nice to get a wine list. My starter was the salmon and was disappointing - a small undressed plate of pasta with a mild sauce and flakes of salmon. The others seemed more happy with theirs which included seafood salad and anitpasto platters. The mains arrived in time, and the steaks were done to order - mine was perfection, rare and tender and the sauce was superb. An orange and brandy flavour which did not mask the deliciously cooked meat. Vegetables were plentiful for the table and the waitresses and owner kept an eye on these and replinished them very well. Desserts were very basic too but they were very patient with a large table of people, some of whom had forgotten what they had pre-ordered. My Christmas pudding was a mere sliver drowned in sauce but at the end of a very substantial meal, no more was needed and we all left very satisfied One member of the party however did not get her main with the others and it took over 15 minutes to arrive after the rest of us had heartily tucked in and no compensation for that was offered - a drink for her would have been nice Overall though, this place dealt with a large table while also seeing to another group of roughly the same number with ease, friendliness, good food and attentiveness. For improvements I think they need to realise how cramped the foyer is and seat large groups immediately - also offer a choice of wines at the table when people have settled and maybe increase the visual delights on the plates - the food cannot be faulted and the service is excellent - I can see this place going from strength to strength and being a very good little place for years to come, succeeding where others have not I would check this out again at a less busy time and would recommend it to others A great night overall
